Budapest Pull Out of 2017 World Championship Bid

Budapest have run their race as they have withdrawn its bid for the 2017 World Athletics Championships leaving a three-way battle between London, for sale Barcelona and Doha the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) confirmed.

The IAAF announced the candidates in a statement after its council meeting in Daegu. The South Korean city is hosting this year’s World Championships this month, while Moscow and Beijing will stage the 2013 and 2015 editions of the Championships.

IAAF statement read: “These potential candidates will have to send their bidding documents by September 1 and the Council will decide in November (at a meeting in Monaco).” The IAAF did not say why the Hungarian capital of Budapest had pulled out of the race.
