Betfair to Sponsor GB Amateur Boxing Championships

The worlds largest betting exchange, Betfair, have agreed a deal with the British Amateur Boxing Association (BABA) to sponsor the upcoming GB Amateur Boxing Championships which will be held at York Hall, London on 11th and 12th November 2011.

The partnership, brokered by Essentially Group, will see Betfair become the headline sponsor of the event, which it will use to promote its Casino product.

The finals will see British flyweights Andrew Selby and Khalid Yafai take to the ring in an Olympic qualifying bout, with the winner guaranteed a place at London 2012.

Betfair’s Joe Legge said: “Some of Britain’s top medal hopes at London 2012 will come from the world of boxing, so we’re delighted to get behind the sport by supporting its brightest talents. With this year’s Championship finals live on the BBC, the event also represents a great opportunity for us to engage a large boxing audience with our market-leading casino offering.”

Derek Mapp, executive chairman, BABA added: “It is excellent news for amateur boxing to have secured an agreement with such an excellent brand and we look forward to working with Betfair to ensure its sponsorship of our showpiece event is a big success.”

The finals of the GB Amateur Boxing Championships will be shown live on BBC1 on Saturday 12th November 2011 at 2:30pm.

BABA has also acquired other commercial deals for the Championships with Lucozade Sport becoming the Official Sports Nutrition partner of the GB Championships and the GB Boxing squad, while  adidas is GB Boxing’s Technical Partner.
