Bernabeu to Host Madrid Derby in Copa Del Rey Final

March 8, 2013

The Spanish Football Association (RFEF) has announced the Santiago Bernabeu as the host of the Copa del Rey final on 17 May.

The final will be contested by Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. It will be the fifth time the city rivals have met in the final, three of which have been won by Atletico, though the red half of the city has not beaten their more successful neighbours in over ten years in any competition.

Both sides will receive 30,000 tickets for the final. It is the first time the Berbabeu will host the final since Sevilla’s victory in 2007.

Real Madrid director Emilio Butragueno said: “We have agreed on everything. We’ve shown that we have an extraordinary relationship between the two clubs.

“We had maintained in recent days to reach this agreement and we are very pleased.

“The decisive factor was the capacity of our stadium. Hopefully this is a celebration of football.”
