BBC Sport has secured rights to broadcast the EuroHockey Nations Championship.

As part of the deal BBC will air all games on iPlayer, the red button or online from 17th August.

Barbara Slater, Director, BBC Sport: “The BBC has always been a big supporter of Olympic sports and we are building on the success of London 2012 to enhance our coverage of these sports throughout the year.”

At London 2012, Team GB’s women won a bronze medal, the first women’s Olympic hockey medal in 20 years and only the second in their history. A peak audience of 8 million viewers watched Team GB’s men play the Netherlands in their London 2012 semi-final. Following the success of the national teams, the number of people playing hockey has followed suit, with a growth in participation in 2012.

Sally Munday, Chief Executive of England Hockey, notes the importance of the BBC’s coverage in continuing the momentum hockey is gathering: “With the international teams on the up and hockey an ever-increasingly exciting sport to watch, mainstream coverage of top-level hockey is instrumental in helping us increase the visibility of the sport.  We hope the British public enjoy the coverage and that people are inspired to get involved in the sport.”

The EuroHockey Nations Championship will be held in Belgium from August 17 – 25 with both the male and female competitions featuring eight teams. England, Ireland and Scotland will compete in the Women’s Championships, while England and Ireland will compete in the Men’s Championships.
