BBC Radio to Broadcast European Rugby Champions Cup

September 26, 2014

BBC Radio has won the exclusive UK broadcasting rights to the European Rugby Champions Cup, European rugby’s new club tournament, until the end of the 2017/18 season.

The Irish radio rights to the competition, which begins next month, has been secured by RTE Radio and Newstalk.

The BBC will broadcast live commentary from up to 12 matches from the opening two weekends of the tournament on BBC Radio 5 Live and 5 Live Sports Extra.

The BBC will also broadcast matches through their network of local radio stations, with additional coverage on the BBC Sport website throughout the tournament.

The UK television rights will be shared between Sky and BT Sports this season for the competition, which has replaced the Heineken Cup as European Club rugby’s elite tournament.
