March 27, 2014

FC Barcelona have moved to strengthen their digital presence in China with the launch of an official club profile on Sina Weibo.

The Chinese microblogging site has over 500 million users and is used by the NBA, therapy Kobe Bryant and Pele to name a few.

Fans will be able to access exclusive content, information and photos, and will be able to participate directly, despite the distance.

Barcelona’s profile on Sina follows on from their presence on another microblogging site in China called Tencent and is being described as a “demonstration of its commitment to the Chinese market.”

FC Barcelona Director of Media & Communications, Dídac Lee said: “To establish bonds of relationship with our fans around the world is a Club priority. The launch of the official account on Sina Weibo allows us to connect with the millions of Chinese who support Barça from a distance.”

To celebrate the announcement Barcelona have launched a campaign to find their biggest fan in China, with one prize being a limited edition of the club’s shirt.
