The English Premier League has unveiled its new visual identity which will be launched from the 2016/17 season.
The rebrand is part of the league’s move away from a title sponsorship after ending its deal with Barclays.
The league worked in partnership with global agency DesignStudio and Robin Brand Consultants to created the new identity that includes a “modern take on the Premier League’s famous lion icon which is flexible in digital and broadcast formats”.
“From next season we will move away from title sponsorship and the competition will be known simply as the Premier League, a decision which provided the opportunity to consider how we wanted to present ourselves as an organisation and competition,” said Premier League Managing Director, Richard Masters.
“We are very pleased with the outcome: a visual identity which is relevant, modern and flexible that will help us celebrate everyone that makes the Premier League.
“We look forward to sharing more details of our new positioning in the coming months.”
DesignStudio Founder and CEO, Paul Stafford, added: “Our aim was to create an identity that acknowledges everyone who plays a part in one of the most exciting leagues in the world.
“And with a fresh, new take on the iconic Lion, we’ve created an identity that’s purpose-built for the demands of the modern world. While staying true to the Premier League’s history and heritage.”

Dubai plans to expand its existing sports facilities across the Emirate with a bid for an Olympic Games, government officials said Wednesday.
Ali Omar, director of Dubai Sports Council (DSC) sports development department said that submitting a candidature as a host city to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was still on the agenda.
‘‘Hosting the Olympics is a dream,’’ he said.
‘‘We hope to submit such a bid within the next eight years, god willing.’’
Omar wants to benefit from the worldwide attention the region will generate from Qatar’s winning bid for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
‘‘Qatar’s move put professional sports in the whole Gulf Arab region in the focus of the world’s attention,’’ he said.
Dr. Ahmed Al Sharif, the DSC secretary general, briefed the media on Dubai’s achievements of hosting professional sports events.
He said that Dubai has built a number of high-tech stadiums, and more stadiums and facilities would be needed across the emirate for a bid for a major global competition in sports.
Andy Murray and Simon Fuller have launched a new management company in London called 77.
Fuller has been Murray’s manager for the past five years and now the pair have unveiled the London-based company that will look after the Wimbledon champion and his brother Jamie.
The name 77 comes from the 77-year wait for a British men’s single champion at Wimbledon that Murray put to rest when he beat Novak Djokovic in the final of this year’s tournament.
Murray said: “The new company will allow me more freedom and the chance to become more involved in my business affairs.
“I’ve got a great team of people around me who I trust, both on and off the court, which in turn allows me to completely focus on my tennis.
“I look forward to working with the team on the next stage of my career.
“The choice of name, 77, is symbolic and means a lot to me – the wait for a Wimbledon men’s singles champion and the final being played on the 7th of July.”

If planning permission is granted work is likely to begin at the end of the 2013-14 seasons.
