The MoU was signed at FIFA headquarters by FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke and a CBF delegation.

The Legacy Fund will be a total of $100 million (£63 million) and will be used to promote development in areas such as infrastructure, women’s and grassroots football, healthcare and social programmes for underprivileged communities with a special focus on the 15 states that were not home to Brazil 2014’s Host Cities.

CBF President José Maria Marin commented: “Through this legacy fund, the 2014 FIFA World Cup will prove a catalyst for Brazil’s football development, particularly at youth and grassroots level. We are truly convinced that Brazilians will remember the 2014 FIFA World Cup for generations to come as a tournament that made a fundamental contribution to our football.”

Bowling to Fall Under One Umbrella as Sport Pushes for Olympic Recognition

International Bowling organisations will now come under the World Bowling banner after joining together in a bid to be included in the Olympic programme.

Announced at the SportAccord Convention in Belek, Turkey, World Bowling will encompass the 10-pin and two nine-pin federations, as well as the International Federation of Bowlers.

Kevin Dornberger is the new federation’s President and he called World Bowling the solution to a broken system.

Dornberger commented after the announcement: “The system was broken, so we tried and tried to reorganise and finally people had literally just had enough and in 2011 they voted by 94 per cent, the highest we’d ever got before was 40 per cent for reorganisation. It was just people sick and tired of the problems.

“There’s a nine-pin President but there’s no concern about what the issues are, what his issues are, what my issues are. They’re completed separate by our new statues.

Dornberger also confirmed they would “take another step next year and legally become World Bowling.

The American also added that “10-pin has Olympic aspirations” and inclusion in the Olympic Games was the next challenge.

Millennium Stadium Final Tier Construction Unlikely but Artificial Pitch Moves Closer

The Millennium Stadium is unlikely to see a revamp of its two-tier north stand to complete three tiers all around the stadium.

BBC Wales is reporting that sources have told them the cost of the work would not be recouped and would only raise the capacity slightly.

However, order the ground in Cardiff could have an artificial pitch by the summer of 2014.

Speaking to iSportconnect in February, Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) CEO Roger Lewis said: “The reason why we are considering such a radical move for an international rugby stadium is because we use the stadium for a range of other activities.

“If we can avoid having to take the pitch out and then bring it back in, we would save a minimum of a quarter of a million pounds.

“Laying an artificial pitch is roughly half a million pounds which is obviously a considerable cost saving.”

An artificial pitch would however prevent the Millennium Stadium hosting a European football final, such as the Champions League or Europa League.

UEFA rules prevent games being played on unnatural surfaces.

If the pitch is installed it will be the first major rugby Test match stadium to adopt an artificial surface.
