Redevelopment of Northampton Town’s Sixfields Stadium Set to Start on Friday

The redevelopment of League Two football club Northampton Town’s Sixfields Stadium is set to start this Friday 14 March.

The £12m ($20m) project which was put together by the football club, Northampton Borough Council and The Country Group hopes to promote economic stability for the local area as well as providing better facilities for the Northampton Football Club.

The new venture, which was given the green light in November, is set to increase the stadium’s capacity from 7,653 to 10,000 and will feature new corporate boxes as well as a conference centre.

It also will provide 33 acres of mixed used property, retail and residential housing as well as a 100 bedroom hotel.

David Cardoza, Chairman of Northampton Town recently said ahead of the redevelopment: “This is a momentous day for Northampton Town Football Club.

“We are so grateful to David Mackintosh and Northampton Borough Council for their support, without which we wouldn’t be in this position. They have been fantastic in helping to deliver a facility of which the town will be truly proud.”

Councillor David Mackintosh, Leader of Northampton Borough Council also commented: “Increasing success in professional sports is as much about what happens off the pitch as on it and the expansion of Sixfields Stadium and the surrounding area will help to regenerate the west of Northampton and develop the club.”

Northampton are currently sharing the stadium with Coventry City, who were this week told by The Football League to provide their future stadium plans.
