Infantino to Hire Non-European FIFA Secretary General if Elected President

FIFA presidential candidate Gianni Infantino will immediately seek to appoint a non-European Secretary General if he wins the election to become the next president of FIFA.

At a press conference in London, the Swiss outlined an 11-point action plan for his first 90 days as FIFA president if he is elected and revealed that he wouldn’t hire a European as the new FIFA Secretary General to replace the fired Jerome Valcke, indicating instead that he’d like an African to fill the role.

Speaking to reporters in London he said: ”What we want to do is open the doors of FIFA administration. I am convinced the general secretary of FIFA should not be European. Why not an African?”

“There are many capable people in Africa, we have to open the doors of FIFA to men and women from all over the world.”

Among his action plans, Infantino will also seek to consult with key commercial partners to bring trust back to the market and launch the process for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“For too long the scandal and corruption that has engulfed FIFA has taken centre-stage and I believe my proposals will help put Football back in the spotlight where it belongs,” Infantino said.

“I will continue to work tirelessly to restore trust in FIFA and create a trustworthy governing body that governs, grows and nurtures the game in a responsible and accountable way”

The 45-year-old UEFA secretary general was supported at the press conference by famous football figures such as Jose Mourinho, Fabio Cappello, Roberto Carlos and Luis Figo.

England 2015 Grooms Dove Men+Care To Be Latest Sponsor

By Christian Radnedge

With just a few months to go until the start of the 2015 Rugby World Cup, the tournament has signed up Dove Men+Care as the official male grooming supplier.

The announcement is yet another in a long line of commercial parternships, which should mean that England 2015 is the most successful edition of the tournament to date.

World Rugby Chief Executive Brett Gosper said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Dove Men+Care to Rugby World Cup’s growing family of major global commercial partners.

“The appointment of another brand sector leader with a passion for rugby to our record-breaking commercial programme is great news for the sport and further underscores the strength of the Rugby World Cup brand in the global sponsorship marketplace.”

Callum Galloway, Dove Men+Care Brand Manager: “The addition of one of the world’s most prestigious major sporting events to our sponsorship portfolio is extremely exciting for both Dove Men+Care and Unilever as a whole. Having established our commitment to rugby over the last few years, this partnership with Rugby World Cup 2015 is a natural extension of our existing relationships with the English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh Rugby Unions.

“We very much look forward to the next few months and an association that will widen our exposure to consumers through a full digital and social engagement programme, including ticket-win opportunities while offering deodorants and shower gels to all 620 participating players.”

This latest deal adds to the anticpation for England 2015 which is expected to be the best-attended and most-viewed World Cup.

That fact shows why it has so much value for potential sponsors. The challenge for World Rugby will be if they can carry the commercial momentum from this year into the next tournament in Japan in 2019, where it is not a traditional rugby market.
