“Sydney racing is renowned as the strongest and most competitive in Australia, and each week features some of the home-grown stars of the sport in trainers Gai Waterhouse, the Snowden and Cummings families, as well as jockeys Nash Rawiller, Tommy Berry and Hugh Bowman, just to name a few.

“And with the likes of Sydney’s champion trainer Chris Waller, one of the all-time great Group 1 jockeys in Jim Cassidy, star jockey James McDonald on the verge of a Sydney premiership, and Bjorn Baker from that famous New Zealand racing family all holding their Kiwi heritage very dear, I am sure we will see some patriotic battles on the track as well as the footy field.’’

Sussex Cricket Reveal Financial Results

Sussex County Cricket Club have announced their financial results for the year ending October 31 2012.

The club revealed an unchanged operating income of £5.2million, sale pills an operating surplus of £227, viagra buy 775 (a significant improvement on 2011’s £12, ailment 026) and an accounting deficit on £325,375 (compared to £123,718 in 2011).

Sussex treasurer Simon Crundwell said: “Whilst a £227k operating surplus is a credible outcome, it was boosted by the one-off receipt of £133k in respect of the settlement of a legal claim.

“Alongside continuing challenging economic conditions, the unseasonal weather in 2012 contributed in part to our match income being 22% down on prior year.

“However, alongside the legal claim, income from our home Clydesdale Bank 40 semi-final and home Friends Life t20 quarter-final was vital. Encouragingly, our non-match day revenue continues to grow, 28% ahead on the prior year, which is an important cornerstone of our medium-term business plan.

“The deficit of £325k recorded is after charging increased depreciation of £553k, reflecting the completion of our ground redevelopment. Importantly however, the club remains cash positive at an operating level with £95k generated from continuing operations after interest and before non-repeat income and depreciation.”

Sussex chairman Jim May said: “The county club business model is marginal and without our success in one-day competitions, Sussex would have made an operating loss. However, it is pleasing that, whilst the playing side remains strong, we are making progress year on year on the business front.

“Sussex is a stable club with no borrowings and cash reserves of around £1m. Having invested nearly £10m in our wonderful ground at Hove in recent years, a major focus for our new chief executive, Zac Toumazi, is to increase attendances both at cricket and other events.”

NFL Begin Shock Talks with London Mayor for Olympic Stadium

In a shock move, the National Football League (NFL) has entered into discussions with London mayor Boris Johnson to move into the Olympic Stadium.

Premier League soccer side West Ham United have been favourites to move to the  London 2012 site but the growing popularity of American football in the UK has increased speculation that the league might look to base a team in London.

Over 84,000 people packed into Wembley last weekend to watch the New England Patriots defeat the St. Louis Rams – the sixth year in succession that a regular season NFL game has sold out in the British capital.

There will be two games played at Wembley next season but something more permanent could now be in the pipeline according to the Daily Telegraph.

The paper quotes a spokesperson for the mayor as saying: “Given the ever-growing popularity of gridiron this side of the Atlantic, the mayor and his team have held a number of meetings with senior executives in the last few days to explore further opportunities for NFL in London.

“The talks were exploratory and we are at an early stage but the signs are encouraging.”

Mayor Johnson is the chairman of the London Legacy Development Corporation – the company that is responsible for the running of the Olympic Stadium.

The paper reports that West Ham’s bid has been hampered by the fact that they would be reluctant to pay the estimated £200m needed for the installation of retractable seating under the stadium’s athletics track and would instead look for state aid to help make the modifications.

Another factor in the NFL’s favour is that a team would only need the stadium for a maximum of 10 times a season, which would allow other speculated events – such as a rumoured Formula One race – to take place at the venue.

The mayor’s spokesperson noted: “Sunday’s game at Wembley, in front of more than 80,000 fans, further cements London’s reputation as the natural home of American football outside of the US.

“Only last week the mayor, in conjunction with the NFL, announced an expansion from one to two regular-season matches in London from 2013. That means in total an additional £44 million in revenue for the capital from next year.”

This follows Robert Kraft, the owner of the New England Patriots, backing a London franchise in the near future..

“For our game to continue to grow and be special we have to expand our fan base, and I think from our cultural and language point of view, going to England and playing there and developing the game made sense,” he told the Boston Globe.

“We have such a following in the UK and people really grab on to the game. It’s wonderful to see another country embrace our sport, and by bringing the real game there I think they have really loved it.”
