Adrian Peterson Secures Equity in Ice Compression Brand Hyperice

Ice compression company, Hyperice Inc. has announced today that Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings running back, has joined the brand as an equity partner, making him the newest addition to the company’s star studded athlete roster.

Peterson, the 2012 NFL MVP, became a believer in Hyperice after using the company’s signature ice compression device as part of his recovery routine during the 2012 season, where he went on to win the NFL rushing title.

Fellow University of Oklahoma athlete and current Los Angeles Clipper Blake Griffin, who is part owner of the company, introduced Peterson to the Hyperice recovery product. Griffin had the company’s founder send Peterson the same knee ice compression device he uses as part of his recovery routine believing it would help Peterson during his rehabilitation. Peterson began using the device daily and the product quickly became a staple of his recovery routine post-practice and post-game. Peterson finished the season strong, and believed using the Hyperice helped keep his knee healthy as he powered his way through the end of the season, completing what many believe was one of the greatest comeback seasons by any player in league history.

“Once I started using the Hyperice, I could feel my knee responding positively. I immediately started incorporating it into my daily recovery routine,“ said Peterson. “Preparing my body to be as strong and as healthy as possible was my main focus going into last season and Hyperice was one of the tools I used to prepare for and recover from games and practices.” He went on, “I’m excited to join Blake and the other athletes to help grow the brand.”

“Adrian has always showed amazing dedication to preparing his body to perform at the highest level,” said Hyperice founder Anthony Katz. “That commitment is what enabled him to come back from his injury as quickly as he did and have one of the greatest seasons in NFL history.” Katz continued, “As a recovery brand, we are dedicated to developing technologies that help keep athletes on the field and performing their best, so there was a mutual interest on both sides once Adrian started using our products during his MVP season.”

“We are honored to partner with Adrian and add him to our stellar roster of athlete partners. He exemplifies everything a Hyperice athlete is all about.”

Peterson joins NBA players Blake Griffin and Rudy Gay, NFL player Troy Polamalu and US Women’s Soccer Team goalie, Hope Solo, as equity partners in Hyperice. All four of these athletes joined the company after using Hyperice daily as a part of their daily recovery routine, or in their recovery from injury.

Puma Uses Bloggers at Volvo Ocean Race to Promote Brand

German sportswear and shoe company Puma have created a bold new marketing strategy by handpicking ten lucky Tumblr and Instagram bloggers to join seasoned sailing journalist’s in Abu Dhabi for one week, to cover the 39,000-nautical-mile Volvo Ocean Race.

The power of blogging in spreading information instantaneously and forming public opinion worldwide has been increasing as technology has been expanding and can be a very marketable way of spreading the word.

Inspired by previous efforts by Tumblr to bring in influential bloggers from around the world to document high-profile events, Puma takes a new step in promoting their brand by sponsoring ten individuals to cover the international sporting event.

The bloggers are expected to post updates either via Facebook or Twitter and take pictures of the event as the competing sailors prepare and eventually depart on January 15th for the next leg of the race in Sanya, China. According to Puma, each blogger will have “free reign” to cover and document what they wish.

Andrew Schmidt, Puma’s Manager of Digital Media Projects, said: “The idea is to fly in these prominent bloggers and Instagramers and just have it be known that they’re there because of Puma and because they deserve it.”

Puma has its own team in the competition, part of the six contestants and is also the official apparel sponsor of the Volvo Ocean Race.

Adidas Show Impressive Financial Figures

Adidas announced their financial figures for the first half of 2011 with revenue increasing a massive 14%, prostate a substantial increase of 10% on a currency-neutral basis in the second quarter of the year alone.

Europe saw them have a huge leap in revenue where sales went up 21% as a result of strong increases at both Adidas and Reebok.

Herbert Hainer, capsule Adidas Group CEO, sale said: ‘After outlining our strategic vision for the company through to 2015 late last year, we have wasted no time and come out of the starting blocks in typical adidas Group fashion – fast and focused’.

‘No matter which way we break down our results – by segment, by region or by brand – all facets of our business are excelling’.

The Adidas Groups gross margin increased 0.2 % to 49.2% (2010: 48.9%) in the second quarter as a larger share of higher-margin retail sales as well as a more favourable product and regional sales mix more than offset an increase in input costs.

This led to their Group gross profit to increase by 6% to $2.143bn while other operating expenses as a percentage of sales decreased 60 basis points to 43.3% compared to 43.9% the prior year, primarily due to lower marketing expenses.

‘No matter which retailer I speak to, or which market share statistic I read, our product sell-throughs are stronger than they have ever been. Despite severe external pressures from currency volatility and rising commodity prices, we were able to defend our profitability as a result of our unparalleled strength in innovation and design as well as supply chain excellence,’ added Hainer.

‘After the strong first half performance, we are on our way to record sales and earnings in 2011. This is all the more notable as various currencies have been weakening versus the euro, which negatively impacts our financial results in the short term’.

McCourt ‘Going Nowhere’, May Sue MLB for Dodgers Takeover

Major League Baseball’s (MLB) Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt said he’s “not going anywhere” after the league took over operations of the team and held up a long- term TV deal with News Corp. (NWSA)’s Fox Sports.

After MLB Commissioner Bud Selig ordered the takeover last week, McCourt said yesterday, April 27, that he is weighing whether to sue over the takeover, at a news conference in New York.

McCourt stated: “Nobody handed the Dodgers to me and nobody’s going to take them away. I’m not going anywhere. This is a team that I love, a community that I love. These are my hard-earned dollars that I put into this franchise.”

The MLB said in a statement that Selig ‘won’t make a decision until a probe into the team’s finances is complete’, though McCourt was told by baseball officials yesterday, April 27, that he hasn’t ruled out the proposed deal with Fox.

The league said: “Mr. McCourt is well aware of the basis of baseball’s investigation and has been provided an eight-page document describing the issues of concern to Major League Baseball“.

Fehr Appointed Executive Director of NHLPA

Don Fehr has become the National Hockey League Player’s Association’s (NHLPA) new executive director after players voted “overwhelmingly” in his favour over the weekend. A search committee had recommended Fehr for the post to the executive board in September.

Fehr, 62, was the long-standing executive director of the Major League Baseball Player’s Association (MLBPA) for 26 years between 1983 and 2009 and switched sports to work as an advisor to the NHLPA in recent months.

“This process took a while and it took a while because from the players’ standpoint they wanted to be sure,” said Fehr.

“From my standpoint I wanted them to be sure they had made a decision they were comfortable with, that all the players had an opportunity to have their say and that this judgement represented a consensus view of the entire membership. It has and that’s both quite an honour to me and is also quite humbling.”

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said in a statement: “We are pleased that the leadership position at the Players’ Association has been filled, and we look forward to working with Don in his new role.”

The NHLPA has had four different leaders since the end of the 2004-05 NHL lockout, and the League’s current collective bargaining agreement with the union is scheduled to expire in September 2012.

Ghana hit by World Cup bonus row

(Source: BBC Sport):None of the players has received the $63,000 promised to each member of the Black Stars because of a procedural dispute with the Bank of Ghana.

The central bank is insisting on paying the players by depositing money in their individual accounts.

But the players are up in arms because they want to be paid directly in cash as has happened in the past.

“The Bank states it serves customers in accordance with the Bank’s operational guidelines and that it is against prudent operational practice to make payments to individuals in excess of $10,000 (ten thousand dollars) in over-the-counter transactions,” the Bank of Ghana said in a statement.

The statement went on: “Accordingly, the Bank has informed the Ministry of Youth and Sports that the Bank would pay the foreign exchange amounts in question either to the bank accounts of the Black Stars players, or by cheques drawn on the Bank’s external account.

“This is in line with international best practice and with various security considerations.

“The Bank has therefore requested the Ministry to furnish it with a list of the names of the players and the respective amounts to each player to enable it to make the payments.

“The Bank is still expecting a response from the Ministry.”

The central bank was forced to issue the statement after accusations last week that it was responsible for the delay in the payment of the players bonuses.

The bonus row overshadowed Ghana’s last African Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan.

A deadline of 15 October set by deputy Sports Minister Nii Nortey Duah passed without a single penny being paid out to anyone.
