Barcelona Renew Deal with Mediapro Agency

Spanish agency Mediapro has continued its deal with European Champions Barcelona until the end of the 2014-15 season, ed in a deal worth an additional Eur10 million ($30m) per campaign

The deal also includes taking over the management of Barca TV, try the club’s television channel, ed until June 2015, which has estimated running costs of about Eur6 million ($9.4m) per year. According to TV Sports Markets, Barcelona will now earn about Eur132.5 million ($207.3m) in the 2014-15 season and the contract covers both league and domestic cup rights.

Mediapro confirmed that the majority of Barcelona’s matches would be played in the evening kick-off slots but said that some games would take place at midday, which is the most attractive slot for Asian viewers who are a huge fanbase for the club.

Mediapro has been selling the rights to La Liga in Asia for the next rights cycle with the promise of earlier kick-off times. Spain is the only major European league where clubs sell their television rights on an individual basis, and the financial advantage it gives to the top two – Barcelona and Real Madrid – has led to dissension amongst the other clubs. Many spanish clubs have struggled to attract shirt sponsors due to this with clubs not being able to bridge the gap between the top and the rest. Without more Tv income they are unlikely to do so.

In the 2010-11 season, there was a 21-point difference between second-placed Real Madrid and third-placed Valencia. The difference in the other top four European leagues between the second and third-placed clubs ranged from zero to six points.

In fact a huge amount of our business comes through recommendations from previous clients, showing the high level of service our team offers.”

Red Bull Secure Expanded Deal with Infiniti

After securing the Formula One constructors title on Sunday, Formula One champions Red Bull Racing announced a expansion to their partnership with Nissan’s luxury car brand Infiniti.

The deal will feature more prominent branding on the Renault-powered cars as well as new areas of technical and product collaboration.

In addition, the two companies will increase the global and market leverage of their alliance. There will also be more involvement between Infiniti/Nissan R&D engineers and the team.

Red Bull and Infiniti had originally entered into a collaboration in March earlier this year in what was a two year deal.

Team principal Christian Horner, said: “In the short time we have been involved with Infiniti it has become clear that the closer we work together the more performance advantages can be gained by both sides.

“It has been a phenomenally successful first season to date, and deepening our partnership further provides us even more scope to share knowledge and expertise, leading to mutual benefits on the track and the road.”

Nissan executive vice-president Andy Palmer told reporters that brand awareness in the first year of the association with Red Bull, had been “tremendously successful”.

“In just seven months the results have exceeded even our most ambitious targets, leading us to becoming the most highly-exposed automotive brand in F1 this season. As we look ahead to the second year of our partnership with Red Bull racing, we are now extending into exciting new areas of technical and product collaboration.”

“We use a system of measuring seconds of TV time…and by that measure we are the most visible car manufacturer on the grid,” said Palmer.

“It looks like Infiniti will have a record year for sales so there is obviously some correlation between one and the other.”

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner said the relationship with Infiniti – under the Renault-Nissan alliance – would make available more technology and know-how for future developments, particularly from 2014 when the engines change.

“It opens avenues of technology that previously as an independent team wouldn’t have been available to us and that obviously would to the likes of Ferrari or Mercedes or even McLaren,” he said.

Horner did not rule out the engine one day being ‘re-badged’ from Renault to Infiniti.

“Obviously in 2014, nothing is decided yet in terms of whether it will be a Renault or even an Infiniti engine,” he said.

“But it is clear it will be a Renault-Nissan alliance engine. It is something that obviously is under consideration.”

NBA Player Drew Gooden Signs Franchise Agreement with Hot-Wings Chain

With the NBA lockout stopping players from playing on the court, but off the court they are still receiving deals with Milwaukee forward Drew Gooden the latest to secure a deal.

The 30-year-old basketball pro has signed a multi-unit franchise agreement with Wingstop, a national hot-wings chain, with plans for opening four new restaurants in Orlando over the next few years.

Gooden, who previously played for the Orlando Magic, and a partner, George Taylor III, have formed Zerocon Food Systems LLC and expect to open the venture’s first restaurant early next year, according to a release this week from the Texas-based chain.

“With the lockout, a lot of us are thinking about our future and looking for new business and investment opportunities,” Gooden said in a statement. “I’ve been a big fan of Wingstop for years, so this is a perfect fit for me.”

The NBA last week canceled the first two weeks of its regular season, as a battle continues over how players and owners will divide the league’s $4 billion in annual revenue.

Dave Vernon, Wingstop’s vice president of franchise sales, says Gooden has shown “great enthusiasm for the brand and a strong head for business throughout the franchise process.” Taylor, he adds, is a “strong operational partner” who will help ensure the restaurants’ success in Orlando.

“There’s a huge market of wing eaters in Orlando and I just want to provide them with the best product out there, hands down,” says Gooden, who has adopted Orlando as his hometown.

Gooden follows a long line of other sports figures and entertainers, including former Los Angeles Lakers star Magic Johnson, who have invested in franchises.

Wingstop has more than 485 restaurants in the United States and Mexico. Hip-hop artist Rick Ross recently opened his first Wingstop in Memphis and Troy Aikman, the Fox Sports analyst and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, sits on the company’s board.

Rugby Player Andy Goode Pens Deal with Car Leasing Company

England and Worcester Warriors Rugby Club star Andy Goode has signed a sponsorship agreement with Windmill Leasing until the end of the season 2011-2012.

The agreement between Windmill Leasing and Goode will see him presented with a top of the range Audi A7 four-door coupe sporting the Windmill Leasing logo.

Goode, who helped Worcester Warriors to reclaim Premiership status last season, originates from the same town as the Bromsgrove based car leasing company. The agreement provides an ideal opportunity for business car lease specialists to show support for a local sporting hero while continuing to raise Windmill Leasing’s profile.

Windmill Leasing is an award-winning provider of company car leasing and contract hire services to businesses throughout the UK. Formed in 2004, the company employs a range of experts in the car leasing field located in its Head Office, Bromsgrove, and a Sheffield satellite office, from which it offers initial advice and ongoing account management services to its clients.

The connection originated from a mutually attended charity golf day in Worcestershire, during which conversations around the deal were initiated.

Keith Townsend, Managing Director of Windmill Leasing, commented: “We are delighted to have entered this sponsorship agreement with Andy Goode. At Windmill Leasing we are always looking at new and innovative ways to raise our company profile and promote our company car leasing services to a wider client base. What better way than to team up with a successful local sportsman who shares our top class winning teamwork ethos.”

In response to the news, Andy Goode tweeted: “Big thanks to Windmill Leasing for supplying an Audi A7 for me. Great car, great guys and a great company – get following them!”

The sponsorship deal marks a further initiative in the recent marketing and operational investment made by Windmill Leasing. Complemented by the launch of a new website, which showcases a range of car leasing deals, the company has recently celebrated the opening of its new office in Sheffield, which will facilitate delivery of a locally based service to customers in the North of England.

Windmill Leasing continues to make advances in the company car leasing market, offering a local service to businesses with the support of a range of experts in the field, and the company looks forward to exploring further innovative ways to market the brand in the future.
