Specialized has signed a deal with the Tour of Britain to become their neutral service provider in a three-year deal.

As part of the new partnership, anesthetist the California-based brand will also provide support at the five Tour Rides taking place in Britain this year.

Three vehicles will provide support to the Tour of Britain itself, which takes place in September, with full details of the route unveiled last week. The cars will be equipped with Specialized Tarmac bikes and Roval wheels with Turbo Pro tyres.

The company has been involved with the race since it was relaunched in 2004 as supplier of bikes to some of the teams taking part – the final stage of last year’s edition was won by Mark Cavendish, then with HTC-Highroad, riding a Specialized Venge.

Tour of Britain race director Mick Bennett said: “As The Tour continues to grow we are looking forward to working with such an established and high-profile brand as Specialized on the 2012 event and going forwards.”

James Booth, PR & Sports Marketing Manager at Specialized, commented: “The idea of becoming more involved in this event in the Olympic year and especially with the grand finale of the race finishing in Surrey was one than Specialized couldn’t refuse.

“It is a really exciting progression for the brand as a team sponsor to now become an equipment sponsor of the event and continues to show our support of domestic racing as well as World Tour racing.”

Shimano provided neutral service support to the race from 2006 to 2008 through a deal between the organisers and UK distributor Madison, and from 2009 to last year the role was undertaken by SRAM/Felt via Saddleback.

Nascar’s Ryan Reed Gets New Drink Sponsor

Ryan Reed, who drives the No. 15 Venturini Motorsports racecar in Nascar, has announced he has a new partner on board, PacificHealth Laboratories, Inc (PHLI) and their premium sports product, ACCELERADE.

Through PHLI, ACCELERADE has begun an exciting new joint venture with Ryan Reed, powering his health on the race track, and with Ryan’s Mission.

As a JDRF National Celebrity Advocate, Ryan’s awareness and funding drive for the cure of type 1 diabetes (T1D) inspired PHLI and ACCELERADE.

Fred Duffner, president and CEO of PacificHealth Laboratories, said: “We are very proud of our partnership with Ryan Reed and his mission to help inspire other athletes like himself with diabetes as well as to help fund research for a cure. We are proud to say that ACCELERADE is able to Power Ryan’s Passion.”

“The partnership with ACCELERADE just seems perfect,” said Ryan. “Ever since I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, my doctor (Dr. Anne Peters) told me to make sure I always have ACCELERADE in the race car to keep my blood sugar up during the race. I can’t race without ACCELERADE.”

Most racecar drivers usually have a water drink bag inside of their racecar to keep hydrated. Along with all the extra wires and gauges inside of Ryan’s car to monitor his blood sugar levels, Ryan also has an extra drink bag with ACCELERADE in it to maintain his blood sugar.

“It is really neat that PacificHealth Labs found my story and need for their product so compelling that they joined my team and mission. It means a lot to have a company with so much passion stand behind me,” said Ryan. “It is pretty cool that ACCELERADE is going to be in my drink bag and on the in car camera spot light at Talladega — how perfect!”

Reed looks to back up his first Superspeedway ARCA start with Venturini Motorsports where he qualified on the front row.

“After running second most of the race at Daytona I know our chances are good here at Talladega. The guys at Venturini Motorsports have worked really hard to bring me a great racecar. I have a great team behind me and I just have to run a smart race,” said Reed.

Notably Sweden’s Jan-Ove Waldner and Jrgen Persson are two of the most celebrated names the company has supported. More recently, two of Europe’s most exciting young players Germany’s Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Russia’s Kirill Skachkov, have signed contracts with Donic.

“We are very pleased to extend this agreement until 2015, it fits our aim perfectly to have partners that commit long-term to ITTF World Title properties”, said Anders Thunstrm, Managing Director, TMS International. “When Donic asked us to look for an opportunity to reach an agreement until 2015, we did not hesitate to contact the ITTF and see if a deal could be made.”

Ram Truck Continue as Official Truck of Churchill Downs & Kentucky Derby

The Ram Truck brand will remain the exclusive automotive partner and the “Official Truck” of Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby for the third consecutive year.

The brand is showcasing its sponsorship with a multifaceted program dedicated to the 2012 Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby. From the moment Thoroughbred fans enter Churchill Downs they will be immersed in the Ram Truck brand via vehicle displays, allergist work trucks in and around the track, capsule gate crew staff uniforms, ed posters and track-side signage throughout the grounds.

The posters and signs featured on the Ram Country Churchill Downs backside are specially crafted messages that resonate with horse racing fans and Ram Truck owners alike, such as “Hard-earned, Not Hard-won,” “Courage not Chance,” “Champions are Made, Not Born,” and “It’s not two Minutes. It’s a Lifetime.”

“A lifetime of hard work, dedication and conviction go into making it to Churchill Downs and the same is true about our Ram trucks,” said Fred Diaz, President and CEO – Ram Truck Brand and Chrysler de Mexico, Chrysler Group LLC. “An efficient, powerful and dependable truck is a must-have tool whether you are an owner, trainer, track crew member or fan. With our broad lineup of trucks, Ram can meet the needs of everyone involved in Thoroughbred racing.”

Complementing the on-site branding, Ram is launching television, print and digital advertising campaigns promoting its sponsorship and “Official Truck” status. The brand’s 60-second “Giants” and “Tommy and the Ram” spots will run on NBC as part of the network’s May 5 Kentucky Derby coverage as will a 30-second Ram brand promotional feature produced by NBC Sports showcasing the Ram 1500 and 3500 Ram Laramie Longhorn. A full-page ad will run in USA Today’s May 4 race preview and a three-page spread will run in the Sports Illustrated post-event derby issue. Print ads also will run in select sports and equestrian publications, including Athlon Sports and Blood Horse magazine.

Digital-media advertising includes placements on various sites, including NBCSports.com, SI.com, BleacherReport.com, SportingNews.com and the Churchill Downs and Kentucky Derby sites.

In addition to a major Ram Truck brand presence at Churchill Downs frontside with trucks positioned throughout the venue, a dedicated “Horsemen’s Lounge” has been created for the owners and jockeys who spend most of their time at the back of the track that operates year-round. The VIP lounge is equipped with computer terminals and a library and sitting area staffed by Ram Truck ambassadors and a barista. The lounge was created in an effort to solidify the brand’s commitment to the sport of Thoroughbred racing. Also featured in Ram Country on the Churchill Downs backside are unique logo placements on select barn stable rooftops, fencing, fence posts and the veterinarian building located in this area.

For the third year, a representative from the Ram Truck brand will present the winning trophy to the owner and jockey of the American Turf Stakes on Kentucky Oaks day. The Ram Truck brand again will be a part of the Super Hi-5-wager. Should an eligible individual win this promotion, he or she will be awarded with a new 2012 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn truck.

Federated Auto Parts Sponsor Nascar Race at Richmond International Raceway

Richmond International Raceway has give away one of its top sponsorship slots, announcing that Federated Auto Parts will become the title sponsor of its September Sprint Cup race for the next three years.

The race will be called the Federated Auto Parts 400, and is an opportunity for the Staunton-based company to promote its nationwide chain of auto parts stores. In Richmond, Federated’s stores carry the Fisher Auto Parts name.

The company previously sponsored the Nationwide series event in Nashville, but that track closed before the 2012 season.

“We were looking for a new location to be our cornerstone event,” company CEO Rusty Bishop said. “We’ll bring about 1,200 guests in from all around the country.”

RIR president Dennis Bickmeyer said that level of participation, as well as the company’s state roots, made it an ideal fit.

“They’ll bring in a lot of people from out of town that will get to experience the greater Richmond area,” Bickmeyer said. “Those customers are going to get to see and enjoy other things in Richmond, and that’s a benefit for all of us.”

RIR also benefits from being able to lock down the sponsorship slot. The spring race, which was run Saturday night, went without a title sponsor. The week of the race, it was dubbed the Capital City 400 presented by Virginia is for Lovers.

That means lost income for the track, which has to fight every year to protect its two Sprint Cup dates on the calendar.

“Our sport is built on sponsorship,” Bickmeyer said. “When you’re missing one, or you’re short a couple here or there, yeah, it has an impact.”

Bickmeyer described it as a natural progression for the company, which has gone from a minor sponsor to a Nationwide naming partner, and will now participate at the highest level.

“This is one of those great success stories,” he said.

Ken Schrader, who drives the Federated car at select Sprint Cup events, also was at RIR for the announcement, saying that the track is consistently a drivers’ favourite.

Dublin Marathon Loses Title Sponsor

The Dublin Marathon has lost it’s title sponsor, An Post National Lottery and its televison coverage this year despite record participation last year.

The Lottery came on board with much fanfare last season, when it brought live television for the first time in 20 years, and it was expected to be involved for two more years.

However, the failure to seal a deal for 2012 has left the October 29 event without a sponsor for the first time since 1992, with no hope of finding a late replacement.

The current National Lottery licence runs out in June 2013 and last month the government took the controversial decision to accept international tenders for it.

Race director Jim Aughney said he did not think this decision was related to the marathon’s problem. “We were in talks to agree terms for 2012 almost immediately after last year’s event and up to two weeks ago,” he said. “It just didn’t happen.

“We were optimistic right up to the very last, but we just couldn’t agree on a financial package. We had to make a decision on going it alone rather than leaving it hanging any longer.”

The loss of sponsorship means that there will not even be television highlights this year.
