Canon will also sponsor 20 athletes in the Athlete Leadership Program, a program that enables athletes to engage in additional, non-sport-based opportunities within Special Olympics. Special Olympics New York was fully incorporated in 1970 and serves more than 61,000 athletes, making it the sixth largest sporting program in the world; currently over 4,700 athletes compete through the Long Island region. The goal of the Special Olympics is to provide year-round athletic competitions for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The competitions provide participating athletes with the opportunity to develop their physical fitness while at the same time establish new friendships, gain confidence and build a positive self-image. Events taking place at the Spring Games North include track and field, and tennis.

Denver Broncos Wide Receiver Eric Decker to Endorse MusclePharm

The European Union of Gymnastics (UEG) has signed a partnership agreement with Kapital Bank, site a premium bank of Azerbaijan.

H&M Becomes Sweden’s Clothing Partner for Sochi 2014 & Rio 2016

Fashion retailer, H&M have announced it will dress the Swedish teams for the Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Sochi 2014, and the Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro 2016.

The four year contract with the Swedish Olympic Committee and Swedish Paralympic Committee will see H&M create outfits for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. The collection will also include a full and extensive wardrobe for all the Swedish teams to wear in the Olympic village for both training and leisure. The pieces will be developed in collaboration with the Swedish Olympians, who will give their input and test the garments in the collection. They will also be collaborating on H&M’s new expanded sports collection, as H&M strengthens its commitment to function and performance in sports clothing.

Netball South Africa Reveals Spar Sponsorship Deal

International retail chain, Spar has announced it will sponsor Netball South Africa in a new three-year deal.

The sponsorship, which runs from January 2013 to December 2015, is worth R20 million. The sponsorship covers the national team and the national championships, and will also include the Under 21 and Under 19 teams.

“For the past 10 years, we have had a strong and close relationship with netball, which has become our flagship sponsorship,” said Spar’s group human resources director Alison Zweers.

“Sport provides an exciting platform on which to build our brand and women’s sport presents an excellent channel for this.

“A huge majority of our customers are women, and we believe we have a duty to support them in return. Netball provides us with a great opportunity to demonstrate our support for our customers.”

“We are delighted to renew our very strong relationship with Spar,” said Netball South Africa (NSA) president Mimi Mthethwa.
