Australian Rugby Union Announces HSBC as Official Banking Partner

Australian Rugby Union have announced today that HSBC has been named the Official Banking Partner of the Qantas Wallabies. 

The deal will see Australian Rugby align with one of the world’s largest international banks from 2014 through to 2016.

Australian Rugby Union Chief Executive Officer, herbal Bill Pulver commented on the deal:
“I’m delighted to announce this new and exciting partnership with HSBC.  Following a successful end to the Spring Tour, it’s a real vote of confidence in our game and the direction we are taking into 2014 and beyond,” Mr Pulver said.

The alignment of two iconic international brands is a reflection of the shared culture and values of both organisations, in addition to being a mutually beneficial partnership that will allow both Australian Rugby and HSBC to grow and strive for success.

“At Australian Rugby Union, from grassroots through to the Qantas Wallabies, we emphasise the importance of Rugby’s values.  Passion, integrity, discipline, respect and teamwork is critical for our future,” Mr Pulver said.

“HSBC has recognised these values as similar to their own, which makes this partnership a perfect fit for both organisations.

“I’m excited about the opportunities, not only for the Qantas Wallabies, but across the whole of Australian Rugby in our drive to succeed,” Mr Pulver said.

The deal extends the involvement of HSBC in Rugby internationally.  In addition to being the naming rights partner of the 2013 British & Irish Lions Tour, HSBC has been the title sponsor of the Sevens World Series for the past three years.

HSBC has previously sponsored the SW Waratahs and inked an endorsement deal with Wallaby Captain and international Rugby’s most capped player, George Gregan. 

The partnership encompasses the upcoming 2014 Castrol EDGE France Tour, Bledisloe Cup Tests and the Castrol EDGE Rugby Championship.

Audi Gets Naming Rights to Adelaide Oval’s New Stadium Club

German car manufacturer Audi has acquired the naming rights to the redeveloped Adelaide Oval’s new Stadium Club.

The inaugural 1455-seat Audi Stadium Club will be completed and open to business patrons from March 2014, marking Audi’s first major sponsorship deal in this state.

Housed on the second tier of the Eastern Stand, the club boasts exclusive access to a range of food and beverage options, including a 5-star restaurant, the John Halbert Room and the Rick Davies Bar.

Audi communications general manager Anna Burgdorf said its involvement came a time when the car maker was building a stronger strategy around its sporty S and RS models.

“In each state we look at a high profile marketing opportunity that fits the brand and the launch of the first club at such a significant piece of SA’s sporting culture was perfect.”

“It was an ideal opportunity for us to capitalise on the new infrastructure going in and our sponsorship agreement with Oval itself is significant for the state.”

Adelaide Oval SMA General Manager Commercial Darren Chandler said the agreement was further evidence of the corporate appeal of the redeveloped stadium.

“The Audi brand represents quality and innovation and that’s what the Oval is about as well.

“We see synergies between the brand and the corporate market the club will attract,” he said.

Star India Replaces Sahara as Official Team Sponsor of Indian Cricket

Star India Pvt. Ltd. has secured major sponsorship rights for the Indian cricket team starting from January 2014 to March 2017.

Star bagged the rights for the period for Rs. 1.92 crore ($315,000) per game, which is 40 per cent less than what it was in the previous deal with Sahara India.

In the previous deal, Sahara used to pay Rs. 3.34 crore (£548,000) per match. 

Only Star and Sahara submitted bids, though seven companies had bought the tender document.

Rights include the right to be called the “Official Team Sponsor,” and to display a commercial logo on the team clothing of the Men’s Cricket Team, the U-19 Men’s Cricket Team, the Men’s A-Team and the Women’s Team,” the BCCI press release said.

“The tender document, which was available from 11th November 2013, was picked up by 7 prospective bidders. Bids were accepted until 3:00 pm on 9th December 2013, at which time the bids were opened and evaluated. Two bidders – Star India Pvt Ltd and Sahara India Financial Corporation – were in the fray. Sahara’s bid was found to be ineligible.”

This last-chance Wild Card is another opportunity for someone to make his dream come true,” said B.A.S.S.
