New MLS Franchise New York City Announces Broadcast Deal with WFAN AM/FM

New Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise New York City FC have announced today that beginning in 2015, bronchi games will be broadcast on WFAN 660 AM/ 101.9 FM.

WFAN is owned by CBS RADIO, and will be the first radio provider to broadcast Major League Soccer (MLS) in English in New York City.

The deal follows the announcement in May of this year that Manchester City Football Club, together with the New York Yankees, had acquired Major League Soccer’s 20th expansion club.

“We’re thrilled to partner with a station as prestigious as WFAN,” said Ferran Soriano, CEO of Manchester City Football Club. “This is a huge opportunity for the team to bring football to all New Yorkers, right from the onset of our playing debut.”

The deal provides WFAN with rights to air all of New York City Football Club’s MLS matches, in addition to the option to air any friendly matches played during the multi-year partnership timeframe.

The New York City Football Club is Major League Soccer’s 20th expansion club and will begin play in the 2015 season, becoming the first MLS club to call the 5 boroughs home.

Karim Bouzidi Appointed New COO of World Series of Boxing

With exactly ten days to go before the beginning of its third season, anabolics  World Series of Boxing (WSB) has announced today the appointment of Karim Bouzidi as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). 

Mr. Bouzidi, therapy 41, will be responsible for all WSB Operations as well as managing the staff at the Headquarters in Lausanne. 

Mr. Bouzidi, who holds dual French and Algerian nationality, has over 15 years experience in business development as well as a long-life passion for boxing. Former General Manager of Paris United, WSB Team Champions in 2010/2011, he has also been involved in the management of the International Boxing Centre of Tunis and has worked for the African Boxing Confederation in identifying African athletes in Europe.

ESPN Deportes Signs New NFL Broadcast Deal

ESPN Deportes Radio has inked a new deal for Spanish-language radio rights to National Football League (NFL) for the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons.

The new deal includes Monday night NFC playoff games, the Super Bowl in 2014, and the 2014-2015 AFC Playoffs.

“We’re incredibly excited to add NFL to our diverse roster of programming” said GM Oscar Ramos.  “U.S. Hispanics are becoming avid NFL fans and this new deal allows us to deliver the content they want in the language they prefer.”

“ESPN Deportes has been a long time partner of the NFL and we are pleased to expand the partnership to ESPN DEPORTES RADIO,” said NFL VP, Fan Strategy and Marketing Peter O’REILLY.  “ESPN Deportes Radio will bring more NFL programming to our growing Hispanic fan base in Spanish.”

Dennis Hone Becomes Permanent Chief Executive of LLDC

Dennis Hone has been appointed the permanent chief executive of the London Legacy Development Corporation . 

The former Olympic Delivery Authority chief was confirmed as the new boss of the organisation, ailment which is responsible for delivering the Olympic site’s housing-led legacy.

Hone served as the corporation’s interim chief executive since August when the LLDC’s former top boss, capsule Andrew Altman stepped down.

He will continue in his role at the ODA until March 2013 and share his time between the two organisations until then, sale according to a statement.

Legacy Corporation chair, London mayor Boris Johnson said: “I am delighted to confirm Dennis Hone’s appointment to this critical role shaping London’s Olympic legacy.

“It is my top priority to transmute the success of this summer into solid economic returns to benefit London for decades to come. Dennis brings a wealth of skills and experience vital to helping bring our ambitious plans to successful fruition.”

Hone said: “It’s been a privilege to be part of the team that helped to deliver the London 2012 Games and I’m delighted to now have the opportunity to deliver its legacy in East London.

Brazil’s Football Leaders Confirm Attendance at Soccerex Global Convention

Soccerex has announced that Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) president José Maria Marin and vice-president Marco Polo Del Nero will both be attending this year’s Soccerex Global Convention.

Sao Paulo State Football Federation (FPF) president and FIFA Executive Committee member Del Nero will be attending alongside Brazil’s 2014 World Cup organising committee chairman Marin, cheap who will be speaking at the opening ceremony in Rio de Janeiro, with the Convention set to run from November 24-28. Del Nero became president of the FPF in 2003 with the clear aim of strengthening the relationship between league clubs and the State of São Paulo. In 2007 he was inducted as a member of the Executive Committee of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL). Most recently he was appointed to the FIFA Executive Committee as one of only three South American representatives and became vice-president of the CBF representing the south eastern region.

Marin is the former governor of São Paulo and previously president of the FPF. He was the vice-president of the CBF representing the south eastern region from 2008-2012 before becoming CBF president in March, in the same month he was named chairman of the 2014 World Cup organising committee. Marin said: “I am excited to be participating in the opening ceremony of my first Soccerex event, and look forward to exploring a Convention that has already made such a significant impact on our football business. It is a very important moment in our sporting history and events like this will help Brazil to lay the foundations for an excellent World Cup.”

Nascar Announces New Content Partnership with The Whistle

NASCAR have announced a partnership with The Whistle – the first cross-platform content provider solely focused on developing entertaining, educational and participatory sports programming tailored to the next generation of sports fans.

San Jose Earthquakes Secure Alliance Deal with Diablo Futbol

The San Jose Earthquakes announced the creation of a landmark partnership with Diablo Futbol Club of Concord, unhealthy establishing the Earthquakes’ first Youth Development Alliance and allowing for collaboration at both the competitive and recreation levels of play.

Through the partnership, ailment Diablo FC – the club where current Earthquakes star and reigning Volkswagen MLS Most Valuable Player Chris Wondolowski played his final years of youth soccer – will work closely with the Earthquakes’ Youth Development Academy while implementing recreation leagues and development schools for girls and boys in the U5-U10 age groups. The Earthquakes will provide financial and curricular support as well as additional resources to assist Diablo FC in its overall development of competitive youth players while also offering recreation-level players an opportunity to participate in their own setting.

“The San Jose Earthquakes are excited to align with such a well respected club in Diablo FC,” said Earthquakes Youth Development Academy technical director Chris Leitch. “DFC has a great track record of developing elite players and we are looking forward to working with an impressive coaching staff with the shared goal of developing players for the next level while also providing more kids the opportunity to play soccer.”

On the competitive side, Diablo FC will field U12, U14, U16 and U18 teams donning an officialSan Jose Earthquakes Youth Development Alliance patch. Coaches in the program will report to Earthquakes Youth Academy technical director Chris Leitch and head coach Marquis White, who has coached for over a dozen years with Diablo FC and is the club’s technical director.  Each roster will serve as a player pool for the club’s Academy, giving each athlete an added level of exposure. The club will also have the benefit of the services of Henry Foulk, a goalkeeper coach for the U.S. Men’s National Team and 12-year veteran at DFC.

Kids in the recreation league will have the opportunity to play in a fun environment while wearing Earthquakes team gear. Structurally, the Earthquakes will also provide a registration platform that Diablo FC can utilize to improve their digital experience.

“This Alliance is a great opportunity for Diablo FC to work with such a respected organization as the San Jose Earthquakes,” said Diablo FC director of coaching Brian Voltattorni. “This gives our coaches a unique opportunity to work with the Earthquakes’ technical staff and share curricular ideas and training habits to help strengthen our player development program. We are honored to be recognized with this partnership since our club has a history of over 20 years developing elite soccer athletes.”

Six Diablo FC alumni have reached the ranks of Major League Soccer. The club has also placed two technical directors and one alumni on the San Jose Earthquakes Youth Development Academy staff.

In addition to competitive teams and recreation leagues, the partnership will also allow for a series of Regional Development Schools. These eight-week programs are offered at four different levels: Elite, Junior U12-U14, Recreational U5-U10 and Developmental U5-U10. The focus for RDS programs is on developing fundamental skills in a fun, engaging environment.

Finally, the partnership will include camps and clinics offered exclusively to Diablo FC members in conjunction with the Earthquakes.

Leandro Negre Gets Four-Year Extension as FIH President

FIH President Leandro Negre has retained his position for a further four years after the the 43rd FIH Congress re-elected the Spaniard after running unopposed for the role. 

The congress also elected a new Executive Board in place for the next term. In total five Executive Board members were elected to hockey’s governing body with four being newcomers. In addition to the Executive Board election, FIH President Leandro Negre was reconfirmed for another four-year term by the Congress after running unopposed for the position.

“I thank all of the countries and delegates for putting their faith in me for another term.” Negre said. “We have accomplished a lot in the last four years, but there is still work to be done and many new exciting projects to tackle.”

All three of the women elected today are new to the Executive Board. Mary Cicinelli (CAN), Sue Catton (ENG) and Sandra Isola (ARG) were all elected in the first round of voting. As the third-place vote getter, Isola will serve a two-year term instead of the standard four-year term to satisfy the FIH Statutes at the next Congress. The trio replace Anne Ellis (WAL) and Sue Neill (CAN), who are retiring from the Board in addition to Renita Gerard (AUS) who was not re-elected.

Following the voting for the female board members, there were two remaining places to be determined. After one round of voting, those final two places went to standing Executive Board member Jan Albers (NED) and HRH Prince Abdullah Shah. Stephan Abel (GER) will not return to the Board next term
