Mike Miller Becomes World Olympians Association First CEO

During his tenure at the IRB he led the eight-year campaign that saw Rugby admitted to the Olympic Games, doubled Rugby World Cup profits to over £100m and instigated the IRB’s £200m Strategic Investment programme which has led to a more competitive Rugby World Cup and the sustained growth of the Game around the world.

Mike has also worked in newspapers, radio, television and the electronic media, becoming the Head of Sport at Channel 4 UK and then the Controller of Television Sport at the BBC. He was also a member of the European Broadcasting Union [EBU] Sports Group Executive Bureau.

Currently, Mike sits on the Advisory Board of the World Academy of Sport. He is also a member of the SportAccord Multi-Sport Games Steering Committee which advises on the direction and strategy for such world multi-sport events as the Mind, Beach, Artistic and Combat Games.

London is First City to Reveal Intent on Hosting ’17 WAC

UK Athletics (UKA) has announced their intention to bring the 2017 World Athletics Championships (WAC) to the Olympic Stadium in London, viagra with the support of the UK Government.

The English capital became the first candidate to formalise their proposal to enter the running to host the prestigious event in a letter to the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

A formal bid is required to be submitted to the IAAF on 1st September, try which will be followed by an evaluation visit in October with a bid presentation and decision in November.

National Grid extends deal with Special Olympics GB

The United Kingdom National Grid has extended its deal as the premier partner of Special Olympics Great Britain for a further three years, it has been announced.

Special Olympics Great Britain is the country’s largest sports organisation for athletes with learning disabilities.

The partnership began back in 2007 as part of National Grid’s community and employee programme.

As part of the extended agreement, National Grid will provide significant funding for Special Olympics Great Britain, as well as continuing to expand its employee volunteer programme.

The Special Olympics Great Britain team are due to take part in the Special Olympics Summer European Games in Warsaw, Poland, from 18 to 23 September.

Sportsnet Seals Long-Term Canadian Hockey League Broadcast Deal

The Canadian Hockey League have announced an extended broadcast agreement with Sportsnet that will last until the 025-26 CHL season. 

The new agreement, which begins with the 2014/15 season, features a comprehensive suite of multimedia rights including television, online and mobile, delivering more than 50 CHL games each year, including CHL playoff games and the MasterCard Memorial Cup. 

Sportsnet has been broadcasting CHL games since the network’s inception in 1998. 

“In combination with our ground-breaking NHL agreement, this truly cements Sportsnet as Canada’s home of hockey,” said Scott Moore, President, Sportsnet and NHL, Rogers Media.

“Our partnership with the CHL is a strong and important one. Together, we will build on the already strong foundation of our Friday Night Hockey brand, and weave the CHL even deeper into the fabric of Canadian hockey culture. In addition to our game coverage, we will continue to tell the stories of major junior hockey in Canada, build stars, and remain with them on their journey through the NHL.” 

“This is a very exciting day for the Canadian Hockey League as we continue to grow our relationship with Sportsnet and TVA Sports over the next 12 years,” said CHL President David Branch.  “The CHL’s partnership with Sportsnet began 16 years ago and in that time the league has enjoyed extraordinary growth by building the brand of our national events and our entire league through Sportsnet’s outstanding and passionate nationwide coverage.

In addition, Sportsnet today announced a 12-year sub-licensing agreement with TVA Sports for exclusive French-language multiplatform rights for CHL games, beginning with the 2014/15 season.

Salford City Owner Reportedly Interested in Buying Oldham Athletic

Salford City Reds owner Marwan Koukash is looking to buy League One football club Oldham Athletic according to reports.

The Manchester Evening News has reported the horse-racing magnate, who saved the Super League side from administration in February, is trying to take over the club before the start of the new season.

In an interview earlier with the BBC, Koukash said: “There is a club I’m looking at which hopefully we will be able to secure within the next month or two.”

He decided against revealing the identity of the club thought to be the Latics.

But a MEN source close to the 54-year-old suggested the club is Oldham and any potential deal would not affect the ownership of the Reds.

Oldham Chairman Simon Corney said: “We have had discussions with a number of people about buying the club and for one reason or another nothing has materialised.

“I know Marwan, I like him and I think he would be fantastic for a club like Oldham.

“He is a genuine sports fan as we have seen with his passion for horse racing and his passion for rugby league.

“He is a friend of the north west and when he does something he does it properly as we have seen with Salford.

“I would welcome his involvement. He is exactly the type of person I would like to be interested in the club.”

European Athletics Reveal 8 Bidding Cities for Major Events

European Athletics has announced that a total of eight cities have submitted their bids for the 2016 European Athletics Championships, pills 2015 European Athletics Indoor Championships and the 2013 European Cross Country Championships.

The 2016 European Athletics Championships is subject of interest from Split, Amsterdam, Bydgoszcz and Istanbul after submitting their bids for the flagship event.

Prague, Belgrade and Istanbul have submitted their bids to host the 2015 European Athletics Indoor Championships. The deadline for submission of the bids was Monday 28 February.

Meanwhile the cities of Belgrade, Antalya and Dudince have also submitted bids to host the 2013 European Cross Country Championships.

Christian Milz, Director General of European Athletics, stated: “These championships along with the SPAR European Team Championships are our most important events and a vital platform for European Athletics to communicate our messages and values across the continent, so it is very encouraging for us to receive such high quality bids.”

Sky Sports Increase Cricket Coverage to Include England’s Next Two Sri Lanka Tours

English cricket will continue to be showcased on Sky Sports after the British pay broadcaster announced it will broadcast the next two tours  to Sri Lanka.

Sky Sports will offer live coverage of England’s visits to Sri Lanka in November this year and then again in 2018.

The agreement means Sky Sports viewers can now enjoy over 380 scheduled days of live England cricket between now and 2020. The schedule includes Test matches, One-Day Internationals and T20 fixtures home and away, beginning with March’s tour of the West Indies.

The agreement – secured with Taj Television Ltd – is the eighth rights announcement made by Sky Sports in the last three weeks.

On Monday, Sky announced a new three-year deal for the IPL from 2015 following agreements for British & Irish Lions, PGA Tour golf, Super League, WWE, Scottish Football, Cricket New Zealand and speedway.

Barney Francis, Sky Sports managing director, said: “Sky Sports is the home of televised cricket and the home of the England cricket team and this deal strengthens our schedule even further.

“We’ll offer two fascinating tours to Sri Lanka as part of an unprecedented offering of over 380 scheduled live days of England cricket over the next seven years.

“Added to our live coverage from around the world, we have never offered such choice of cricket to Sky Sports customers.”

Rajesh Sethi, Ten Sports CEO, added: “We are delighted to have a strong relationship with Sky and it always makes for exciting viewing when England are in Asia. This deal means viewers in the UK and Ireland will enjoy the next two England tours in Sri Lanka, it is great news for fans of the game.”

England will travel to Sri Lanka this November for five One-Day Internationals and two T20 matches. The second tour begins in October 2018 and is scheduled to comprise three Tests, five One-Day Internationals and one T20.

Gerard Kennedy Appointed Chief Financial Officer of Golf Australia

Golf Australia has announced the appointment of Gerard Kennedy as the company’s new Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary.

Kennedy joins Golf Australia from NRL club Melbourne Storm where he was most recently the General Manager of Operations.

Golf Australia CEO Stephen Pitt said Kennedy would be an excellent addition to the team.

“Gerard has a variety of experience across the finance and company operations divisions of Melbourne Storm and an obvious passion for working in sport, viagra ” Pitt said.
