British Triathlon Searches for New CEO

The British Triathlon Federation are seeking a new chief executive after current incumbent Zara Hyde Peters decided to leave the organisation.

After six years with the organisation, Peters has left to explore new challenges.

Peters said: “It is a hard decision to step away from this role and this sport. The last six years have been some of the most enjoyable of my working life. But one of our organisation values is embracing change, something I am putting into practice with a move to a new leadership challenge through joining the NHS Executive Fast Track programme, part of the NHS’s drive for innovation, to bring fresh ideas, perspective and thinking into positions in the health service, and to work alongside the talented leaders who are already working in the NHS.

“Triathlon is a young sport and is still developing, so I look forward to watching the further growth and success of the sport. I have been Chief Executive for six incredible years and just as good governance dictates that Boards should evolve and change, I genuinely believe that the same is true of the staff leadership.”

Under her control, the sport has undergone a massive growth in participation, a significant shift in public profile and capped an amazing four-year journey when record crowds lined the route in Hyde Park to cheer home the first two triathletes to ever win Olympic medals for Team GB, Alistair and Jonny Brownlee.

Ian Howard TD, Chair of the British Triathlon Board said: “Zara leaves the Federation in fantastic shape for the future, but the organisation has high aspirations and we are looking for an exceptional individual to take the BTF forward to Rio 2016 and beyond. We believe this role will attract applicants from a wide variety of backgrounds and we are looking forward to the challenge of selecting the best candidate.”

Bulgaria & Italy to Host 2015 CEV Volleyball European Championship

Bulgaria and Italy have been awarded the hosting rights to the Men’s 2015 CEV Volleyball European Championship.
This joint candidature eventually edged the competition that was brought by Finland and Estonia and the Champs will take place in five venues, which are Varna, Plovdiv and Sofia in Bulgaria plus Messina and Catania in Italy. The final stage of the competition will be held in the splendid “Armeec Arena” in Bulgaria’s capital city that this past July also hosted the finals of the FIVB World League.
The Netherlands and Belgium – two great small countries as announced in their bid – will be the hosts of the 2015 CEV Volleyball European Championship – Women. Venues of the event will be the state of the art facilities available in Rotterdam (venue of the finals), Apeldoorn, Almere and Antwerp.
With a long tradition in Volleyball and a long-lasting experience in hosting major events, not to forget the support of the local authorities, these countries promise to contribute a real Volleyball “fiesta”. With Belgium having already hosted the prelims of the Champs in 2007, the European Championship are returning back to the Netherlands after they were held there in 1995. The 2015 CEV Youth Volleyball European Championship – Girls will be held in Varna and Plovdiv, Bulgaria; Varna is seen as Bulgaria’s Volleyball “Mecca” with the local multifunctional arena to be completely renovated up to a capacity of 7,000 seats by late 2014 while the second preliminary Pool will be hosted in Plovdiv, i.e. Bulgaria’s second largest city.
The Boys Championship is set to take place in Ankara, Turkey, whose Volleyball facilities have already played host to many international events, with the main goal of the Turkish Volleyball Federation being the development of men’s Volleyball to attain results similar to what was done with the very successful women’s national teams in all age groups.
