Asian Tour CEO Mike Kerr Resigns Amid European Tour Merger Negotiations
December 7, 2015
The Asian Tour has announced that chief executive Mike Kerr has resigned from his role, at a time when the organisation is currently in talks with the European Tour over a merger.
No reason has been given for Kerr’s departure, with uncertainty around the merger cited as a possible reason.
A statement released by the Asian Tour to AFP said: “The Asian Tour has announced that its CEO Mike Kerr has left the organisation after three-and-a-half years in the role.”
It is believed several players of the Asian Tour are not entirely happy with the potential merger with the European Tour and expressed this at a players’ meeting at the Macau Open in October.
Asian Tour chairman Kyi Hla Han also released a statement and praised the achievements of Kerr during his three-and-a-half year tenure.
“During his tenure, Mike introduced a more corporate direction to the tour and enhanced the structure of the management team,” Han said.
“We would like to thank Mike for his contribution and wish him well.”
