Asian cities shortlisted for award

Kuala Lumpur, Pyeongchang, Singapore and Tokyo have been shortlisted for the SportBusiness Ultimate Sports City of 2012.

The shortlist also includes Melbourne, the reigning Ultimate Sports City, which will compete this year with Australian rival Sydney, London, Berlin, Vancouver, Manchester and Paris.

Doha, Istanbul, Rio de Janeiro, New York, Glasgow, Madrid, Moscow and Budapest all return to the shortlist.

Cities appearing on the shortlist for the  first time include Amsterdam, Baku, Copenhagen, Durban and Buenos Aires.

The SportBusiness Ultimate Sport Cities Awards are the internationally-recognised rankings of the world’s top sports hosts. The awards have been held every two years since 2006, the 2012 awards will be the fourth edition.

Cities are judged according to the size and volume of events they have hosted within a specified period amongst over factors.

The final results will be announced at the SportAccord Convention in Quebec City end of this month.
