Argentina Contemplating Rugby World Cup Bid
June 7, 2012
According to media reports, Argentina are to bid for the 2023 or the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
Agustin Pichot, director at the Argentine Rugby Union (UAR) and also the country’s representative on the IRB, has told SportBusiness International that they are already starting to look into the bidding process for either of the sport’s global gatherings.
Pichot has opened dialogue with the Argentinean government and has also revealed that the country will bid for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in a process he terms looking to “learn and grow” as a country.
England are next in line to host the event in 2015, while Japan were successful in their 2019 bid which means Argentina could crack the nod if the IRB continues in a similar vein with handing one global gathering to a rugby stronghold and another to a developing nation in rugby terms.
