Apple to Sponsor Super Bowl 50 Host Committee
January 18, 2016
The National Football League (NFL) has agreed a deal with Apple to become a Super Bowl Host Committee sponsor.
The technology giant joins the likes of transport company Uber as a host committee sponsor and the sponsors have, according to Super Bowl 50 Host Committee CEO Keith Bruce, contributed approximately $50 million to fund its activities.
As part of the deal, Apple will be permitted to use the logo of the Super Bowl Host Committee in its promotional material and will have local marketing rights around the game.
They will be not be permitted to use the NFL’s logo however, as that right is exclusive for Super Bowl sponsors.
Speaking to Yahoo Finance about the deal with Apple, Keith Bruce said: “It was during a bit of a transition time from Steve [Jobs] to Tim [Cook], and they told us, ‘This is the right thing to do. We’re building a mega campus that will be a stone’s throw from the stadium.”
This will be Apple’s first involvement in the Super Bowl since it aired its “1984” commercial in that same year.
Super Bowl 50 will take place in San Francisco, at the home of the 49ers, on 7 February.
