Amsterdam Arena to Bid for Euro 2020 Match

February 26, 2013

The Amsterdam Arena will be bidding for a match at the 2020 Euro tournament, the CEO of the stadium has confirmed.

Speaking at the World Sports Congress in London, Amsterdam Arena CEO, Henk Markerink said that ‘in principle,’ the arena would begin the bidding process later in the year.

Markerink added: “Of course we are a candidate for it. We are the only stadium (in the Netherlands) able to host a game at 2020.

“In principle yes we will bid for that.”

Euro 2020 will be the first Euro tournament to be staged across the tournament, instead of in one or two host countries.

Romania confirmed to iSportconnect earlier in the year that they had also begun the bidding process and Bayern Munich confirmed the Allianz Arena was in the same process last week.
