Al Jazeera to Compete with Canal for Domestic French Ligue 1 Rights

cheap helvetica, sales sans-serif” class=”Apple-style-span”>Ligue 1, the elite soccer division in France, has claimed that Qatar-based broadcaster Al-Jazeera has made an offer for the domestic TV rights for top-flight games from 2012 to 2016. 

The announcement comes after Al Jazeera pipped Canal Plus to the international rights for the competition and the broadcaster will be competing with the same channel, and current rights holder with Orange, once again.

The league stated that it will review all of its bids later in the week but would not disclose any amount offered. The deal will be expected to exceed the total paid by Canal Plus for the previous 4 years from 2008-2012 with was believed to be around US$657m.
