AIBA ‘reassign’ Executive Director following judging decisions

August 19, 2016

Following the decision taken yesterday by AIBA to reassess the judges and referees officiating during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, treat the AIBA Vice Presidents and Executive Board members have decided to reassign with immediate effect the current AIBA Executive Director Karim Bouzidi to a new role within the organisation.

The operational responsibilities for the remainder of the Olympic Boxing Competition will now fall to the Vice President of the AIBA Executive Board, Franco Falcinelli, President of the European Boxing Confederation.

In a stament AIBA said: “The decisions taken emphasise that AIBA will not shy away from its responsibilities and will continue to ensure a level playing field and a fair and transparent sport. It is of paramount importance to protect our sport and its R&J community whose integrity has been put into question.”

AIBA made the decision to change a number of officials following a series of controversial judging decisions at the Games.
