Aggreko to Sponsor Shanghai Rugby Sevens

October 9, 2012

Aggreko, the world leader in the provision of temporary power and temperature control services, is to continue its support of rugby in China as a key sponsor of this year’s Shanghai Sevens tournament.

Aggreko has been a sponsor of the tournament since it began in 2009. It is now one of the main rugby sevens tournaments in Asia. This year’s event takes place at the Yuanshen Stadium on 22-23 September, with 12 men’s teams and four women’s teams from across Asia competing over a weekend of top-class rugby action.

“Sevens rugby is growing in China at a tremendous rate. With sevens becoming an Olympic sport in Rio in 2016, the focus and investment in developing sevens locally is really becoming apparent,” commented Kelvin Lam, General Manager, Aggreko China. “I am very proud to see the strong improvement in the last four years in both the Chinese men’s and women’s teams and I’m sure that by 2016, Chinese rugby will be a force at the Olympic Games in Rio.”

Aggreko has been involved with sevens sponsorship for over a decade. In addition to the Shanghai event, the company is also a key supporter of the IRB Sevens tournaments in both Dubai and South Africa.

“The parallels between sevens rugby and our business are very strong,” commented Debajit Das, Managing Director of Aggreko Asia. “The speed, teamwork, commitment and energy required to be successful are just as important to Aggreko and our customers as they are to any rugby team. We are very proud to be a founding sponsor of this great event and congratulate the organisers, along with the Chinese Rugby Union, for growing the game so successfully over the last four years.”
