Abu Dhabi Renews Formula One Deal Beyond 2016
November 20, 2014
Abu Dhabi will continue to stage Formula One races after agreeing a new multi-year deal which will last beyond 2016.
Abu Dhabi Sports Management signed the deal with Formula One but specific terms of the contract were not revealed.
The Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi has hosted an F1 race yearly since its first appearance in 2009. The initial deal between Abu Dhabi Sports Management and F1 was a five-year deal which is due to end in 2016.
With Formula One race contracts usually being five years, prostate this new deal could see F1 races on the Yas Marina Circuit until 2021.
Formula One chief executive Bernie Ecclestone said: “Abu Dhabi has played an important part in pioneering the modern era of Formula One racing.
“I said when the Yas Marina Circuit was opened that it may one day be matched, but it will never be bettered.
“The island has continued to transform each year. We have a wonderful partner here.”
The sixth Abu Dhabi Grand Prix takes place this weekend and is the final race of the Formula One season with Bitain’s Lewis Hamilton and Germany’s Nico Rosberg battling for the World Championship.
