UKBJJA Board of Directors

The Directors are responsible for the strategic management of the UKBJJA, on a voluntary basis. Directors are elected from Member Club representatives to serve a period of four years. (Any director may be re-elected for a maximum of two consecutive terms._

All directors:

  • Must be Members of the UBJJA, and if a club owner/promoter their business(es) also members at time of election
  • Must abide by Constitution and all relevant UKBJJA Policies
  • Must not be disqualified from being a Director
  • Must be included on Companies House company records
  • Must act within powers granted by UKBJJA Constitution
  • Must exercise reasonable care, skill and diligence
  • Must act in a way most likely to promote success of Association for the benefit of its members and other stakeholders
  • Must have appropriate skills, qualifications or experience for the position applied for
  • Must not use position for personal gain
  • Must declare potential conflicts of interest
  • Must pass appropriate background checks (e.g. Enhanced DBS; AccessNI; PVG; Disclose Scotland)
  • Must complete Safeguarding and other Director training as required by the UKBJJA
  • Must attend 1 board meeting per month
  • Must be committed to volunteering towards 1 event per quarter or 20 hours quarterly as required by the association

Chairman

  • Provides leadership of the Board and the Association
  • Sets strategic objectives to ensure Association’s principles and objectives are met
  • Provides casting vote at Board meetings
  • Manages senior staff, including CEO
  • Accountable for fulfilling their responsibilities

Treasurer

  • Oversees financial affairs of the Association to ensure they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice
  • Ensures proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures are in place
  • Monitors and reports on the financial health of the organisation
  • Oversee the production of necessary financial reports/returns, accounts and audits*
  • Identifies and develops fundraising opportunities
  • Accountable for fulfilling their responsibilities

(*NB day to day financial tasks & reporting will be undertaken by CEO, bookkeeper & accountant as appropriate)

Secretary:

  • Oversees that Board meetings, AGMs and EGMs are properly administered*.
  • Reviews membership reports and ensures that reports are timely and accurate*
  • Monitors Board and Committee member action points.
  • Responsible for ensuring the proper conduct of Board meetings and the AGM as called/ organised by the Chairman / CEO
  • Draws up agendas together with the Chair and CEO and ensure compliance.
  • Review and approval of Meeting Minutes and ultimately responsible for ensuring that a minute taker is available.
  • Ensures accurate recording of decisions and actions in the minutes and reporting to the next committee meeting on the progress of actions and the result of decisions, supported by the CEO.
  • Accountable for fulfilling their responsibilities

Regional Development Directors (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland & Wales)

  • Identifies opportunities for growth and promotion of Association in relevant country
  • Ensures regional activities are compliant with relevant local laws and relevant local sports council guidance
  • Liaises with local Sports Council
  • Supports regional championships
  • Organise, run and support at least one event per quarter to increase participation in their countries (including but not limited to junior development camps, kids’ competition events, national training events etc).
  • Drives membership outreach and relations in territory
  • Fosters national stakeholder and local government relationships in territory

Principal Council Officer

  • The Principal Council Officer (PCO) will serve as the central coordinating figure within the UKBJJA Council.
  • Organises and Chairs annual Council Meeting to independently review and consider the report of the Board of Directors
  • Presents the Council’s views of the report of the Board of Directors to the Annual General Meeting.
  • Coordinates the activities of regional council members, ensuring consistency in communication, development initiatives, and event coordination across all regions.
  • Act as the liaison between the central UKBJJA leadership and regional council members, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Monitor the progress and effectiveness of regional initiatives ensuring alignment with the UKBJJA’s broader objectives.
  • Compile and present quarterly reports summarizing the achievements and challenges of regional council members and submit these reports to the UKBJJA Board of Directors, ensuring transparency and continuous improvement.
  • In the event of a vote on any Council Matter the PCO will have the casting vote to resolve any ties.

About the Role

As the Sports Director you will be managing relations with the Olympic and Recognised International Federations (IFs). Main Responsibilities

Institutional

  • In collaboration with each respective department’s Director, oversee the policy, strategy and objectives of the Sports, Athletes and Health, Medicine & Science departments, including aligning on budget and Human Resources and work of their respective commissions
  • Lead and empower the three departments in the operational implementation of IOC strategies and recommendations, while raising executive-level issues to the Director General and the IOC President for decision
  • Lead the representation of the Sports, Athletes and Health, Medicine & Science Departments at the IOC Executive Board and IOC Session meetings
  • Enable the operations of the Sports, Athletes and Health, Medicine & Science departments for the delivery of Games-time related programmes and deliverables

Management of the department

Strategic and operational Responsibilities

Olympic Programme Commission

  • Define the Olympic programme review procedure and manage its implementation
  • Manage engagement with Olympic Programme Commission members and the management of meetings and recommendations
  • Support the Chair of the Commission on presentations of reports to the IOC Executive Board and the IOC Session

International Sports Federations

  • Lead and manage the relations with the Olympic IFs and the IFs’ involvement in IOC strategic projects
  • Intervene in situations requiring mediation between IFs and OG or YOG Organising Committees.
  • Is responsible for relations with the International Federations:
  • Liaison between the International Federations and the IOC
  • Recognition of International Federations and examination of applications from recognised International Federations
  • Monitoring the support granted to International Federations for the development programme
  • Organisation of joint meetings with ASOIF and AIOWF
  • Liaising with AGFIS and ARISF
  • Is responsible for monitoring all activities and relations with recognised sports organisations. Enable the Sports team to support the IFs with developing their sport

Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games

  • Lead and manage the liaison with IFs and OCOGs on sport-related projects, including the qualification systems, competition schedules, venue selection, IF services, delivery models and Games / competition operations. Make sure this is coordinated with the Olympic Games Executive
  • Coordinate and manage all sports-related evaluations and reports in the framework of the applicant and bid city procedures for the OG and YOG.
  • Take part in the OG and YOG Coordination Commission meetings and project reviews.
  • Manage the sports-related operations during the OG and YOG.
  • Manage the OG and YOG debriefing with the Olympic IFs and follow up the resulting actions and recommendations.
  • Support the Games-time activities of IOC President (sports visits…)

We’re seeking someone with:

  • Preferably at least 10 years’ experience in the field of high-level sports management, including ideally International Federations and / or Organising Committees of the Olympic Games.
  • Proven experience of at least 10 years in a managerial function within an organisation linked to sport, a public agency or large-scale sports association.
  • Proven knowledge of the Olympic Movement.
  • Excellent management skills.
  • Ability to exert influence and work in a complex environment.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

  • Provide high-level strategic and leadership direction throughout the bid evaluation, allocation, and approval processes, ensuring that cities and venues meet the organisation’s global standards. 
  • Act as the primary liaison between the IOC, respectively the IPC, organising committees, other sports organisations, and FEI departments, ensuring cohesive collaboration and integration of policies, objectives, and rules.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field; an MBA or master’s degree is highly desirable. 
  • Knowledge of equestrian sport, including areas such as event management, sponsorships and sports development. 
  • Extensive experience in leading and managing teams within the sports industry or a related field, of at least +15 years. 
  • Experience working with or managing Olympic/Paralympic-related programmes 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute long-term strategies aligned with the organisation’s goals and vision. 
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to manage budgets and drive financial sustainability.

Chair – British Fencing

The Role

The Board is seeking an individual with outstanding leadership skills and achievements, with the passion and commitment to devote to the Board and stakeholders at this exciting time for the sport. The successful candidate will Chair one of the most diverse Boards in Olympic sport, and work closely with the Chief Executive. The ideal candidate is likely to have strong experience gained in a similar role within
the sport sector, not for profit or wider corporate sectors. Experience of working in an organisation that has a membership would also be helpful. In addition, this person is likely to have experience as a Trustee or Non-Executive Director with a strong understanding of risk and governance. They should have a collaborative approach and desire to bring their skills and commitment to further develop fencing across the country at grassroots and performance level, ensuring our sport remains inclusive to all.

This position has a 4 year period of office and that can be renewed for one further 4 year cycle.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop strong, effective and harmonious working relationships with the Directors of the Board, ensuring that they are updated on progress against the achievement of the organisation’s strategic plan and on significant issues/developments which are likely to impact British Fencing’s strategies, policies and performance.
  • Provide effective management of the Board and CEO, to achieve the highest possible performance in delivering British Fencing’s strategic objectives; monitor and review the performance of Board and CEO against key targets.
  • Ensure that British Fencing connects well with members, actively seeking and acting on feedback to develop and strengthen member engagement.

Chair – Basketball England

Basketball England is seeking a new Chair to lead the national governing body for the sport. 

The successful candidate will succeed Matt Neville, who oversaw a challenging but successful period for basketball, which included Team England winning gold and silver medals for 3×3 at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and reforms to improve safeguarding, player welfare and integrity services.  

Basketball England is the NGB for the country’s second-biggest team sport with more than 1.4million regular participants per year and a range of leagues, competitions and programmes. 

The new Chair will be experienced, committed and capable of bringing authentic, supportive leadership and have the passion, skills and connections to drive the development and inclusive growth of basketball across England. They should be able to reflect, represent and champion the basketball community we serve. 

The Chair will help set the vision, strategy and objectives for BE’s governance of the most diverse, exciting sport in the country. They will lead the board of directors and support Chief Executive Officer Stewart Kellett and his team to deliver the best possible service for the organisation’s members and to represent the wider game.

Independent Chair – WTTTC26 Stakeholder Board

Table Tennis England has secured the rights to host the ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships 2026 (WTTTC26).

The WTTTC26 will celebrate 100 years of international table tennis which was born in London in 1926 and we cannot wait to bring the global game together at the OVO Arena, Wembley in April 2026 to celebrate this momentous time in our sports history.

The WTTTC26 Stakeholder Board will operate under the governance of a newly established company, TT International Events Ltd (TTIE), to assume strategic oversight of the championships. In turn, TTIE has established the WTTTC26 Stakeholder Board to ensure the championships is delivered under the terms of the awarding of the WTTTC26 by the delegates at the ITTF AGM on 24 August 2023.

We are now recruiting an Independent Chair of the WTTTC26 Stakeholder Board.

This is a voluntary position and fixed term until three months after the conclusion of the championships (circa August 2026).
