Renzi (pictured) made the announcement today at an event in Rome which was also attended by the Italian Olympic Committee.

”The Italian government, together with CONI, is ready to do its part for a project that isn’t based on great infrastructures or big dreams but rather great people,” Renzi said according to the Associated Press.

”We will be at the vanguard for all the spending controls.”

“Our country too often seems hesitant,” Renzi added.

“It’s unacceptable not to try … or to renounce playing the game.”

“Italy has all it needs to face its problems. You can’t not dream.”

“The bid will obviously be centered on Rome. But it will also involve Florence, Naples and Sardinia. … We’re making this bid to win.”

FIFA to Invest Significantly in Football For Hope

FIFA will invest all $1.5 million generated from the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil in commercial public viewing fees into community organisations supported by Football for Hope, the social development programme of world football’s governing body.

FIFA raised $1.5 million from 257 commercial public viewing licensing fees, which were charged for the right to show live match coverage at public events around the world during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

In the coming years, this money will go towards supporting community and grassroots organisations that use football as a catalyst for social development.

“For FIFA, it is important to invest in social development projects and to contribute to a positive legacy of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and abroad,” said Niclas Ericson, Director of FIFA’s TV Division.

“We will channel these funds through our Football for Hope initiative to give community organisations the support they need to improve the lives of young people.

“We would like to extend our thanks to all the broadcasters and public viewing organisers that supported this effort.”

FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand Host Cities Announced

The host cities of the FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015 were announced today at the Maritime Museum in Auckland with John Key, Prime Minister of New Zealand, Dave Beeche, CEO of the LOC for the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2015, and Frank van Hattum, President of New Zealand Football Inc, all in attendance.

The cities and stadiums named are: Auckland (North Harbour Stadium), Christchurch (Christchurch Stadium), Dunedin (Otago Stadium), Hamilton (Waikato Stadium), New Plymouth (Stadium Taranaki), Wellington (Wellington Regional Stadium) and Whangarei (Northland Event Centre).

The event will begin on 30 May 2015 and end on 21 June 2015. It will be the third time the tournament has been held in Oceania, following Australia’s hosting in 1981 and 1993.

FIFA President Sepp Blatter said: “New Zealand hosted the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 1999 and the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in 2008 and enjoys a proud history of successfully hosting FIFA events. Bringing the FIFA U-20 World Cup to this sports-loving country will for sure enhance the image and popularity of the beautiful game in New Zealand. The Host Cities play an essential role in delivering a FIFA competition and I am pleased to see that football fans in cities across the whole country will have the chance to become a part of it.”

Dave Beeche added: “To have seven stunning venues locked in nearly two years out from the first match gives us a great planning timeframe and we’ll use all of it to ensure that a standout event is delivered. This tournament has a huge global following and that’s the opportunity we have with this event – to deliver exposure for New Zealand and host regions both directly during the tournament and via a massive international television audience. With the world’s best footballing talent on display and stadiums full of colour, noise and atmosphere, it will be a new experience for New Zealand that everyone will want to be a part of.”

AEG Owner Determined To Accelerate NFL Takeover

American tycoon Philip Anschutz is reportedly eager to prove his commitment to the NFL stadium project in downtown Los Angeles by purchasing a National Football League (NFL) franchise, pills according to Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) president Tim Leiweke.

Leiweke has strongly denied reports that NFL officials are unhappy with AEG’s proposal for a team, no rx along with playing down rumours that the recent takeover of Major League Baseball franchise the Dodgers could see a rival stadium developed in the Chavez Ravine area of the city. Leiweke told the Los Angeles Times that Anschutz is ready to pay for both AEG’s proposed US$1.2 billion Farmers Field stadium and a team as long as he can get a “reasonable” deal from the League.

Having previously indicated that he would be willing to acquire only a 50% stake in an NFL team, Leiweke has now detailed Anschutz’s new stance, marking a new level of commitment to bring the NFL back to Los Angeles for the first time since 1995, when the Raiders returned to Oakland and the Rams moved to St Louis.

National Basketball Association legend Magic Johnson and his co-owners in the Guggenheim Baseball Management consortium last week sealed a huge deal to acquire the Dodgers and Leiweke conceded they could seek to put forward a football stadium proposal in the vicinity of Dodger Stadium. Leiweke added to the Los Angeles Times that he was in talks with the Dodgers’ new ownership group, but did not reveal what the discussions were about.

AEG is planning to release a 10,000-page environmental impact report on Thursday, setting off a 45-day public comment period. The newspaper states that a final report will be followed by a 175-day window for environmental-related legal challenges. If all proceeds smoothly, officials say the downtown site would be on an equal regulatory footing with Majestic Realty’s rival project in the City of Industry by March 2013, which Leiweke said is the earliest that the NFL could decide to move a team.
