Omnigon chosen to develop new Rugby OTT platform

Omnigon, pills one of the world’s leading digital services firms within the sports and entertainment industries has been chosen by Rugby International Marketing to develop its all-new over-the-top (OTT) video platform, denture The Rugby Channel.

The Rugby Channel will bring users all the action and live viewing excitement of one of the world’s most popular sports to the US audience.

The offering, allergist which is designed to drive engagement with current and new Rugby fans, will roll out in two phases.

Phase one is live now on iOS and Android mobile devices and the web at TheRugbyChannel.tv; phase two, launching on advanced platforms, will happen June 2016.

The OTT platform will include both free and premium content offerings.

Real time, head-to-head stats will include tries, carries, possession time, clean breaks, and tackles. The free offering will offer short videos and limited content.

Report: Diego Maradona to run for FIFA Presidency

Diego Maradona intends to stand for the FIFA presidency to replace Sepp Blatter, medstore according to Uruguayan journalist and author Victor Hugo Morales has said.

Morales claims the Argentina legend told him the news during a phone call between the pair.

More Federations Tumble Out of SportAccord As Bach Keeps Vizer Waiting

The governing bodies of table tennis, equestrian, curling and rugby all announced they were suspending their membership of SportAccord on Thursday.

That means the total number of federations who have now left the umbrellag organisation stands at 18, following president Marius Vizer’s criticism of the International Olympic Committee at last months convention in Sochi.

The fallout led to Vizer this week writing a statement trying to justify his original comments but also appealing to IOC president Thomas Bach in an attempt to engage in peace talks for the “unity of sport”.

In a letter of his own, Bach was in no rush to speak to the Romanian head of the International Judo Federation – though he has not ruled it out either.

Bach said: “As the president, I have the obligation to express the opinion of my organization rather than just a personal one. Therefore I will come back to you after the next IOC executive board meeting.”

That next exco meeting is due to be held in Lausanne on June 7-8.

The future of SportAccord now hangs in the balance, and reports suggested this week that the next three conventions, due to be held in Russia, were cancelled by the nation.

However these rumours were denied by SportAccord exclusively to iSportconnect.

Istanbul Will Not Bid For 2024 Olympics

Turkish International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Ugur Erdener has told Around the Rings that Istanbul will not be bidding to host the 2024 Olympics.

Speculation has been mounting that the city will submit a bid and go head to head with Boston, anesthetist Rome, apoplectic Paris and Hamburg to secure the Games, but Erdener has dismissed a potential bid.

Erdener says despite losing out to Tokyo for the 2020 Games, he is “90%” sure the city will not bid to host in 2024.

Following a devastating earthquake in Nepal, the British Red Cross has launched an appeal to provide urgent emergency support.

The initial earthquake, measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale, struck 50 miles Northwest of Kathmandu at 6am on 25 April, killing more than 8,000 people.

The country was today hit by another major earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.3, which has so far seen 37 killed and 1,000 injured.

Alexander Matheou, British Red Cross Director of Programmes, said: “The impact of this powerful earthquake has been devastating.

“People are now sleeping out in the open, too scared to return home while the aftershocks go on. Some have no home to return to.

“Search and rescue efforts are continuing, but some roads, especially in areas near the epicentre, have been damaged or blocked by landslides or rubble. We are extremely worried about these communities.”

The British Red Cross appeal will bring in urgently-needed support – including safe drinking water, emergency shelter and medical equipment. Every donation will make a big difference.

De Vos Named New FEI President

Belgian Ingmar De Vos has been elected as President of the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) after earning 98 votes out of a possible 131 in the first round of voting.

De Vos, no rx 51, online who has been the Secretary General of the FEI since May 2011, was elected to take charge of the world governing body of equestrian sport during the FEI General Assembly in Baku.

The result was announced by outgoing President HRH Princess Haya, who simply said: “I am pleased to announce we have a new FEI President, Ingmar De Vos”.

“I’m really very honoured and overwhelmed by this enormous support and I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your confidence. Baku will be in my memory forever,” said De Vos.

“Elections are always difficult, as it splits a little bit the family, but I guarantee that I will be the president of all of you, I will serve all the members of our community and I will work very hard to keep this unity.”

After his election, De Vos received a letter of congratulations from IOC President Thomas Bach.

The letter read: “Please accept my congratulations on your election as President of the International Equestrian Federation. The IOC enjoys a long-standing relationship with FEI, its elected members and administration.

“We are sure that FEI will continue its growth under your leadership. Your previous experience in different positions of the Equestrian sports will be invaluable for you in this new office.

“On behalf of the IOC and the entire Olympic Movement, I wish you every success in the new role you are undertaking.”

De Vos takes over the reins as FEI President for a four-year term, and is eligible for re-election for up to three consecutive terms.

He has stepped down from his role as Secretary General with immediate effect and will appoint an interim Secretary General to take over the role until a permanent replacement is found.

German Bundesliga Approve Goal Line Technology

The German Football League (DFL) has agreed a three-year deal with Hawk-Eye to supply Goal Line Technology (GLT) to the Bundesliga.

The technology company will be providing its Fifa-approved systems to the 18 Bundesliga clubs meaning it will be used at all 306 matches in Germany’s top division every season.

The use of GLT was voted on by all Bundesliga clubs with 15 of the 18 sides voting ‘yes’ to ensure the two-thirds majority requirement.

An attempt to approve the technology had failed in March but Bayern Munich, medicine the biggest club in Germany, vialis 40mg proposed it again.

Hawk-Eye’s GLT systems are already in use in the Barclays Premier League and Holland’s Eredivisie and will now be put in place for the start of the 2015/16 Bundesliga season.

“Hawk-Eye are delighted to have been selected to implement Goal Line Technology for the Bundesliga,” said the company’s managing director, Steve Carter.

“We are excited to now be the official goal line technology provider for both the German and English leagues – the two countries who have probably had the two highest profile goal line incidents in the last 50 years.”

FEI Vice-President McEwan to Run for Presidency

John McEwan, vice-president of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI), has put himself forward for election to replace the governing body’s current leader Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein in December.

McEwan has been the FEI’s Veterinary Committee chairman for over eight years and was elected as first vice-president in 2000 and has also been chair of the Endurance Committee.

McEwen has also previously chaired the FEI’s Bureau and its General Assembly in Princess Haya’s absence, along with previous roles serving as the director of the British Equestrian Federation’s (BEF) World Class Performance Programme for Equine Sports Science and Medicine.

“I have been delighted to play my part in support of the FEI and of our current President, HRH Princess Haya,” said McEwan.

“I have no illusions about the challenges for this election and the work that needs to be undertaken in the future.

“I run because I know I have the confidence and support of my own federation and because I am committed to the direction our current President has forged.

“There is clearly more work to do but we have good people in place and a sound executive team led well by its secretary general, Ingmar De Vos.

“If elected, I will seek to run a steady course and a period of further evolution.”

The BEF President and chairman Keith Taylor has backed McEwan for the FEI Presidency due to his knowledge of the sport, his commercial experience, his connections and his “strong sense of fair play”.

“We were geared to support HRH Princess Haya in her campaign to run for another four years,” he explained.

“Her withdrawal from the race a couple of weeks before nominations close has caused us to move quickly. But, we took no time in citing John McEwen for our nomination. He is hugely experienced and electable.

“He knows the FEI inside out and he knows what needs to be done to build on Princess Haya’s outstanding legacy. He is very well respected throughout the international community as a man of integrity. We support him fully.”

Joining McEwen in the election for the FEI Presidency will be French Olympic show jumping champion Pierre Durand, Danish Equestrian Federation President and European Equestrian Federation vice-president Ulf Helgstrand and Swiss businessman and horse breeder Pierre Genecand, who have already announced their candidacy.

The deadline for candidates to put themselves forward is September 1, with the election due to take place at the FEI General Assembly in Baku, Azerbaijan, on December 14, 2014.

Renault to Power Four F1 Teams Next Season

Renault are expected to power four Formula One teams from next season according to reports, with Red Bull and their sister team Toro Rosso the two confirmed.

Caterham and Lotus make up the four teams and according to reports will renew in the near future.

Renault have helped Red Bull win the last three constructors’ titles and will supply Toro Rosso when a new V6 unit replaces the current V8 next season.

Jean-Michel Jalinier, Renault Sport F1 director said: “We very likely will end up with four teams. The discussions with Lotus and Caterham have progressed.

“It’s almost done with them, so there’s a high probability that we end up with four (teams) in 2014.”

Renault will unveil the engine they have developed with Red Bull a the Paris air show next week with the deals believed to be announced soon after.
