Hong Kong to host biggest ever sailing event

Hong Kong will be hosting the Volvo Ocean Race for the first time when the event visits in February 2018 during the 13th edition.

In a press conference today, viagra Volvo Ocean Race organisers announced a unique collaboration with the Hong Kong Sailing Federation to bring the race to Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour.

It will be the largest world-class sailing event ever staged in Hong Kong.

The world’s premier offshore race will transform the old airport in Kai Tak, sale and introduce residents of Hong Kong to a wide range of race-related activities geared to educate as well as entertain both existing fans and newcomers to the race.

An in-port race, will also be held in the port before the boats leave for the next leg.

Anthony Day, Council Member of the Hong Kong Sailing Federation, said: “This will go down in history as a milestone event for Hong Kong sailing and will provide a wonderful platform for us to engage more Hongkongers in the sport of sailing.”

Antonio Bolaños Lopez, acting CEO of the Volvo Ocean Race, added: “I am thrilled that the race is visiting one of the most beautiful ports in the world for the first time. We are delighted to welcome Hong Kong to the Volvo Ocean Race family and know that we will have a stopover that will be one of the highlights of the 2017-18 edition.”

Former WTA CEO Allastar makes tennis return in new USTA role

Former Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) CEO Stacey Allastar has made a return to tennis after being hired to the newly created position of Chief Executive, Professional Tennis, at the United States Tennis Association (USTA). 

Allaster stepped down from her post at the top of the the WTA in October 2015 after leading the organization, first as its president, then as its chairman, for nine-plus years.

She will be tasked with setting the strategic vision for the USTA’s pro tennis division and will begin her new role in April

Katrina Adams USTA Chairman, CEO and President said: “Stacey’s track record in tennis is exemplary.

“She is a role model, has been a success at every level of the sport and is driven by a passion for tennis. We know that she will help bring the USTA’s professional tennis interests to even greater heights.”

USTA Chief of Professional Tennis Operations and US Open Tournament Director David Brewer will continue in his current role, reporting to Allaster.

Dentsu Sports Asia Appoints Stuart Ramalingam as Vice President and Head of Malaysia Department

Dentsu Sports Asia (DSA), cheap a subsidiary of Dentsu, order has announced the appointment of Stuart Ramalingam as Vice President and Head of Dentsu Sports Asia’s Malaysia operation.

Based in Kuala Lumpur, ask his role will be to reinvent the sports marketing landscape by conceptualising and introducing international standard management, servicing methods and innovative marketing concepts that will challenge the grain within the current domestic sports industry.

Ramalingam said: “Dentsu Sports is a major player in the global sports industry and I’m proud to be appointed as DSA’s Vice President. Given Dentsu’s unique position and with the expertise within the current organisation, I’m sure that we will be able to build a stronger and more significant footprint in Malaysia and across the Asian region.”

Ramalingam is currently heading all DSA’s Malaysian projects consisting of clients, brands and federations. He will play DSA’s leading role for the seven-person strong and growing sports marketing team in Malaysia.

Ramalingam was previously the Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Super League (MSL) Sdn Bhd, the commercial arm of the Football Association of Malaysia.

After two years with the MSL, he joined the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in 2012 where he held two positions – Director of Club Competitions and Director of Marketing.

For the past two years, he has been working as a consultant to several commercial agencies before joining Dentsu’s sports team on a full-time basis.

Football League Seals Record Five-Year Deal With Pitch International

The English Football League has signed a record five-year renewal of its international rights deal with sports marketing agency Pitch International. 

The deal will cover the five seasons from 2017-18 until 2021-2022 and includes the leagues operated by the Football League which include the Championship, League One, League Two and the League Cup and Football League trophy competitions. 

Pitch International’s current deal with the Football League was due to run until the end of the 2016-17 season having started in 2012-13.

In a statement, the Football League revealed that it was a “record” deal which will “deliver a 68 per cent increase on existing arrangements.”

In November, the Football League announced that it will be rebranding to the ‘English Football League’ as part of a corporate and competition re-branding.

2016 NCAA College Football Championships Opener to be Held in Sydney

The first game of the 2016 NCAA College Football Championships will take place in Sydney, mind Australia when the University of California’s Cal Bears take on the University of Hawaii’s Rainbow Warriors, it has been confirmed. 

The game will take place at ANZ Stadium on August 27 next year and will be known as the Sydney College Football Cup.

Indiana Pacers Partner With St. Vincent Hospital

National Basketball Association (NBA) franchise the Indiana Pacers have signed a facility partnership with St. Vincent Hospital.

The two parties are partnering on a training facility and medical office building that will open in 2017.

International Triathlon Union Opens Bidding for World Cups & Multisport World Championship Festival

The International Triathlon Union (ITU) has opened bidding for the 2016 Triathlon World Cup season, sales as well as the 2019 and 2020 ITU Multisport World Championship Festival.

“Hosting an ITU event offers cities the opportunity to promote a healthy lifestyle to its citizens while also showcasing their city to a global audience,” said ITU President & IOC Member Marisol Casado. “We are in a healthy position that so many cities want to host events & be able to plan calendars years in advance.”

ITU Triathlon World Cup events provide world class racing for athletes pursing entry to the ITU World Tritathlon Series, as well as offer qualification points for the Olympic Games and other Major Games.

Cities interested in hosting an event must submit their bid to ITU by July 15, 2015. The winning cities will be announced in September. While ITU accepts bids for World Cup races annually, local organising committees have the opportunity to present a multi-year bid.

In 2017, Penticton, Canada will organize the first Multisport World Championships Festival, which will see all championship multisport races including duathlon, long distance triathlon, aquathlon and cross triathlon, organized together during a week-long festival.

This ground-breaking event now allows for athletes to compete in various multisport races, as opposed to electing only one. With the 2018 event also awarded to Odense, Denmark, ITU now opens bidding for the 2019 and 2020 versions of the Festival.

Unicef Team to Debut in Clipper Round the World Yacht Race

The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race has today confirmed that Unicef, medical the world’s leading children’s organisation, will have a yacht entry in the tenth edition of the world’s longest ocean race.

The cost of the team entry has been donated by the race organisers to Unicef UK, the Official Clipper 2015-16 Race Charity.

Clipper Race CEO William Ward explained: “The Clipper 2015-16 Race is our tenth edition and we wanted to mark this landmark in the history of our biennial international event by giving something back to the global community.”

“I am very proud that the Clipper Race is able to support a Unicef yacht entry and hope that as the team races around the world they will help raise awareness and support for Unicef’s work to protect children in danger.”

Unicef operates in 190 countries around the world, including every country on the Clipper Race route, and ensures more of the world’s children are fed, vaccinated, educated and protected than any other organisation.

Uniquely for amateur sailors, more than 670 crew members from all walks of life and representing over 40 different nationalities will compete in the Clipper 2015-16 Race. As the fleet makes its way around the world, crew members and Clipper Race supporters will be encouraged to fundraise for Unicef’s work for children.

Setting sail from London on 30 August 2015, the Clipper Race fleet’s twelve identically matched ocean racing yachts will compete against each other competing between six different continents before returning to London in summer 2016 to a victorious homecoming.

The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is 40,000 miles long and takes almost a year to complete. In addition to being the longest ocean race in the world, it is also known as one of the planet’s toughest endurance challenges.

Qatar to Remain on MotoGP Circuit for Further 10 Years

MotoGP has agreed an extended deal for the Losail International Circuit in Qatar to remain on the World Championship calendar until 2026.

The agreement was jointly announced by Dorna Sports CEO Mr Carmelo Ezpeleta and QMMF President Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Attiyah.
