Atalanta Start Season With Seven Point Deduction

Atalanta felt the full brunt of the punishment for match-fixing as they start the new season with a seven point deficit.

Newly promoted Atalanta and Serie A side Chievo Verona were only two of the clubs clited last month for suspected match fixing. They were given these punishments on Wednesday in Rome at a hearing before the Italian Football Federation’s (FIGC)

According to Reuters, last season’s Serie B game between Atalanta and Piacenza came under scrutiny following reports of irregular betting patterns. This has resulted in Atalanta’s veteran captain Cristiano Doni being handed a three-and-a-half-year ban, while team-mate Thomas Manfredini received a three-year ban.

The other team Chievo attempted to enter into a plea bargain and were fined $113.388. Problems occured for them when Stefano Bettarini was charged with influencing the outcome of the matches which led to him being banned for 14 months.

Other lower league teams have been apprehended but yet to be announced by the FIGC. The scandal’s have been investigated from November and has resulted in 18 matches been analyzed and leading to 16 arrests.

Open Letter from iSportconnect CEO & Founder for iSportconnect’s Birthday

Open Letter from iSportconnect CEO & Founder Sree Varma

Dear iSportconnect member,
Today marks the third birthday of iSportconnect. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for your continued support and to share some of our plans to grow even further in the year ahead.

History

I launched iSportconnect in 2010 after being frustrated by the lack of a single website that unified all of the functions I required whilst working in the sports business industry. After consulting with my peers it became clear that I was not alone and a comprehensive platform tailored to industry professionals was highly sought after.

iSportconnect went live for the very first time on June 25th 2010, and has since developed into a thriving community, an informative source of news and expert insight, as well as a fantastic platform to discover new business and career opportunities.
Current Developments

I am immensely proud of what we have managed to achieve so far, but we refuse to become complacent and will always strive to progress even further.

Team Expansion
We are further strengthening the team here. Tony Davison has joined as Commercial Director and Jay Stuart will be assisting us as Editor-at-Large. Both of them bring a wealth of experience and knowledge and will be great assets to iSportconnect and its community.

SPORTEL E-mag

iSportconnect has also agreed a groundbreaking partnership with SPORTEL to exclusively produce quarterly e-magazines for one of the world’s largest sports conventions. The e-magazines will be overseen by Jay Stuart and feature the latest industry news and updates on SPORTEL conventions. The first edition of the new 40-page SPORTEL e-magazine will be available to the iSportconnect and SPORTEL communities in September 2013.

Havas Sports & Entertainment Partnership
We are also delighted to announce a new global partnership with Havas Sport & Entertainment, which will see Directors’ Clubs initially take place in Paris, Munich, Moscow and New York all before the end of 2013. Our history of collaboration and exclusive membership, together with HS&E’s global reach and sports industry expertise make this partnership a natural fit for both parties. We are looking forward to working with an organisation as respected as HS&E, and can reveal the first events will be held in Paris and Munich early this autumn, followed by Moscow and New York later this year (details and exact dates to be announced shortly), with the UK and other locations in 2014 to be shared at a later date.

iSportconnect Business Solutions
iSportconnect Solutions will launch in the near future, utilising our expertise in translations, investments and e-magazine publishing to help organisations thrive in the global sports business. More information on this exciting new venture will be available soon.

iSportconnect Executive Clubs
Finally, following the huge success of our Directors’ Clubs, we will be launching iSportconnect Executive Clubs, where high-level professionals in specialist sports sectors (sports law, social & digital media, sponsorship brands, media & broadcasting, and sports finance) can receive expert advice, share and discuss white papers, attend training events and collaborate.

Thank you

All of this is just a taste of what is in store over the next twelve months. We have truly enjoyed bringing the sports business world together since 2010 and hope to do so for many years to come. It requires a lot of hard work, but is thoroughly rewarding.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of our members. We hope you have enjoyed using the platform and share our enthusiasm for iSportconnect’s future. We always welcome your opinions and suggestions, so please send any feedback to info@isportconnect.com.
Thank you,
Sree Varma
