Seattle Group Ups Sacramento Kings Purchase Offer

An investor group seeking to move the NBA’s Sacramento Kings to Seattle has raised its offer to $550 million, the hedge fund manager behind the offer said.

The Seattle group led by hedge fund manager Chris Hansen and and Microsoft chairman Steve Ballmer announced Friday night they had reached agreement with the Maloof family to raise the purchase price of the Kings by $25 million to an NBA-record $550 million.

The revised bid comes in advance of a National Basketball Association’s Board of Governors meeting to be held on Thursday and Friday, where a decision is expected on whether to have the team stay in Sacramento, California, or award it to Seattle by allowing the investor group to buy it from the Maloof family.

A rival investor group is seeking to buy the Kings and keep them in California’s capital city.

The group plans to rename the Kings the Seattle Supersonics, in a recast version of the NBA franchise that made Seattle home from 1967 until it moved to Oklahoma City in 2008 and became the Thunder.

Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, a former NBA player, lined up investors to make a counter offer. Last month, Sacramento officials announced they had reached a $450 million deal with private developers to build an entertainment and sports complex they hope will keep the Kings from leaving for Seattle.

The viewer data (metro and regional combined) is from the past 12 months across Free To Air TV (FTA) and included all major sports.

When analysing the data, abortion including all metro and regional viewers, cricket once again is the winner with more Australians watching cricket compared to any other sport on Australian television.

A standout success for Cricket Australia has been the broadcast of KFC T20 International matches which out-rate most other sports. Nine’s broadcast of the 2011-12 T20 Internationals averaged in excess of 1.4m in the capital cities and 738,000 in regional markets for a combined national figure of over 2.1m people per match.

Over the last ten years, the Vodafone Test Series has attracted an average daily audience on Nine of over 860,000 viewers and the Commonwealth Bank Series over one million viewers in metro markets alone. Nine’s night sessions of One Day Internationals attracted a metro audience average in excess of 1.1m for each game in the 2011-12 season.

Nine’s trusted commentary team and world class broadcast technology and innovation continue to attract new viewers to the game and provide truly pioneering vision as the various forms of the game soar in popularity.

The broadcast of BBL|01 on FOX SPORTS achieved an average 280,000 viewers per match, making it one of the most successful sporting events in subscription TV history.

Cricket Australia’s international and domestic matches are broadcast in Australia on the Nine Network, FOX SPORTS and on ABC Radio.

Buffalo Bills Agree One-Year Lease Extension on Stadium

NFL team, Buffalo Bills has agreed in principle to a one-year lease extension with the Erie County that would allow the team to continue playing at Ralph Wilson Stadium next season.

County executive Mark Poloncarz announced the agreement Wednesday after Bills CEO Russ Brandon raised concerns about the lack of progress in negotiations to reach a long-term deal, and with the current lease set to expire July 31. Poloncarz said the agreement was reached after he and Brandon spoke on Monday.

“Nobody wants to have a gun at their heads thinking if we don’t get it done by the end of the season then what’s going to happen,” Poloncarz said. “By doing an extension, it guarantees the Bills are here for the full 2013 season, and it gives us ample time during the next 18 months or so to continue these negotiations.”

The announcement came after Brandon went public by informing The Buffalo News that negotiations had stalled in a story published Wednesday morning. Brandon then repeated his concerns in an interview with The Associated Press.

WTA CMO Andrew Walker Stands By Equal Pay for Women in Tennis

Andrew Walker, chief marketing officer of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has justified his position on equal pay for the women’s circuit.

Johan Cruyff & Ajax Coaches to Seek Legal Action after Boardroom Row

The boardroom debacle at Ajax is set to increase after Johan Cruyff announced he and ten coaches at the club are to take legal action against four members of the supervisory board over the appointment of Louis van Gaal, Danny Blind and Martin Sturkenboom as directors.

Cruyff, the fifth member of a divided supervisory board, claims he was not informed of the changes and intends to take legal action against Edgar Davids, Steven ten Have, Paul Romer and Marjan Olfers.

The former Ajax and Barcelona coach, who has been backed by Wim Jonk, Dennis Bergkamp, Ronald de Boer, Jaap Stam, John Bosman, Bryan Roy, Dean Gorre, Orlando Trustfull, Michel Kreek and Marc Overmars, said in De Telegraaf newspaper: “Unfortunately, it is inevitable.

“It was a clear signal, the football players have in recent days been insulted. Therefore, we collectively decided to take legal action against the four commissioners of Ajax. So, for clarity, not against the club.”

Cruyff insists the move is not about personal issues – he and 60-year-old Van Gaal are known to not see eye to eye – but rather his desire to see a younger set of coaches have more power at the Arena.

He added: “People who say it’s about power know nothing.

“My generation should step into the background and make room for a new and ambitious group of people that will take Ajax back to the summit. It should not be that people like myself or Van Gaal take the reins.”

Rugby World Cup Experiencing High Ticket Sales

Rugby World Cup organisers have announced that ticket sales for the tournament have reached 75% of the revenue target for the competition.

The revenue total has topped US$167m, viagra ed with organisers of the New Zealand event forecasting sales of US$224m on expected sales of 1.35 million tickets from 48 matches. There has been a recent flurry of activity, according to organisers, with US$25m of sales having occurred over the last six weeks.

Rugby New Zealand 2011 CEO Martin Snedden announced the news ahead of the start of final phase of ticket sales today. He said: “This is a significant milestone. Prior to the 2011 Rugby World Cup, the highest revenue-generating event in New Zealand’s history was the 2005 British & Irish Lions Tour, which grossed US$20m. As of today, we have achieved eight times the ticket revenue for that event.”

Snedden added: “We have now sold just over 900,000 tickets which underlines how popular this event is going to be.” Recent ticket sales have been driven by the resale of tickets to the eight matches reallocated as a result of the Christchurch earthquake. In the final phase of sales, tickets will be available for most matches other than the final.

“We’re urging fans to quickly take advantage of this sales period and secure the seats they want to witness rugby at its best. For most of the matches on sale Monday, there are still lots of tickets available in the lowest priced seating categories. For more than half the pool matches this means that fans can buy tickets for as little as US$25 or US$34 and take their kids for half that price.”
