“We have plans in place to reorganise and restructure all areas of our business to enable us to continue to provide the same fantastic level of excitement and support to the city but certain recent events, apoplectic largely outside of our control, viagra have put our club under immense and immediate pressure.”

Frank McCourt and MLB Reach Agreement to Sell LA Dodgers

Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt and Major League Baseball (MLB) reached an agreement late last night (Tuesday) to sell one of the sport’s most storied franchises.

This ended a seven-year run that included four trips to the postseason before recently becoming mired in legal troubles capped by a filing for bankruptcy protection.

A joint statement said there will be a “court-supervised process” to sell the team and its media rights to maximize value for the Dodgers and McCourt. The Blackstone Group LP will manage the sale, which could include Dodger Stadium and the surrounding parking lots.

The announcement came as the Dodgers and MLB were headed toward a showdown in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware at the end of the month as mediation between both sides was ongoing.

McCourt and baseball Commissioner Bud Selig have traded barbs since MLB took control of day-to-day operation of the team in April over concerns about the team’s finances and the way it was being run. McCourt apparently realized a sale of the team he vowed never to give up was in his best interest and that of the fans.

McCourt filed for bankruptcy protection in June after the league rejected a 17-year TV contract with Fox, reported to be worth up to $3 billion, that he needed to keep the team afloat. Selig noted that almost half of an immediate $385 million payment would have been diverted from the Dodgers to McCourt.

The franchise’s demise grew out of Frank McCourt’s protracted divorce with Jamie McCourt and the couple’s dispute over the ownership of the team. The divorce, which played out in public in court, highlighted decadent spending on mansions and beach homes and using the team as if it were their personal credit card. They took out more than $100 million in loans from Dodgers-related businesses for their own use, according to divorce documents.

Last month, Jamie McCourt cut a deal with her ex-husband to settle their dispute over ownership of the team they bought in 2004 for about $430 million.

The terms of the settlement between the McCourts weren’t disclosed publicly, but a person familiar with it who requested anonymity because it’s not meant to be public told The Associated Press that Jamie McCourt would receive about $130 million. She also would support the media rights deal worth up to $3 billion.

That removed her from the number of opponents Frank McCourt was facing in bankruptcy court because Jamie McCourt had initially lined up behind MLB and Fox in asking the bankruptcy court to reject his bid to auction Dodgers television rights.

A new owner would be the third since Peter O’Malley sold the team to News Corp. in 1998. The Dodgers had remained in the O’Malley family since Walter O’Malley moved the team from Brooklyn to Los Angeles in 1958.

England 2018 makes Russia bid leader complaint

England’s 2018 World Cup bid team has lodged a complaint with Fifa against the head of Russia’s rival campaign over comments he made about London.

Russia 2018 chief executive Alexei Sorokin was quoted as criticising high crime rates and the drinking habits of young people in England’s capital.

Fifa has strict rules prohibiting criticism of rival bids.

Sorokin said he would apologise for any “misunderstanding” but not for the comments he claims were misinterpreted.

It is being reported that England is seeking a formal apology from Sorokin rather than expecting action from the ethics committee ahead of the World Cup vote for the 2018 and 2022 hosts on December 2 vote.

The ethics committee, chaired by former Swiss international Claudio Sulser, is already dealing with allegations of corruption involving two FIFA executive committee members, and collusion involving two bidding nations for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

LA Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Banned for Life, NBA Pushes Sale

Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been banned for life from basketball and ownership duties following a recording of him making racist remarks.

The National Basketball Association (NBA) issued the punishment and a $2.5 million fine while Commissioner Adam Silver also demanded Sterling to sell the team.

Celebrity website TMZ published the audio of Sterling telling a woman not to bring black people to games or to associate with them in public.

Sterling said the recording did not reflect his views and the woman in the audio is believed to be his girlfriend Vanessa Stiviano.

Stiviano posted a picture of herself with basketball legend Magic Johnson on her Instagram account, which led to the remarks in the recording.

Almost unanimously, owners supported the commissioner Tuesday, as he handed down one of the harshest penalties in the history of U.S. sports.

At a press conference on Tuesday, commissioner Silver said Sterling’s hateful opinions had no place in the NBA.

“We stand together in condemning Mr. Sterling’s views. They simply have no place in the NBA,” Silver said at a news conference.

Sterling, 80, is banned for life from any association with the league or the Clippers, and was fined $2.5 million – the maximum allowable under the NBA constitution. The fine will be donated to organisations fighting racism. If three-fourths of the other 29 owners agree to Silver’s recommendation, Sterling will be forced to sell the team he has owned since 1981.

He also confirmed Sterling would be banned from participating in all team business, as well as attending NBA practises or games.

Chris Paul, the Clippers’ All-Star point guard and the president of the players’ union, issued a brief statement before leading Los Angeles against the Warriors in Game 5 of their tied playoff series.

“In response to today’s ruling by the NBA and Commissioner Adam Silver, my teammates and I are in agreement with his decision,” Paul said. “We appreciate the strong leadership from Commissioner Silver and he has our full support.”

A statement from the Clippers said they supported and embraced the decision and it was now time for the healing process.

Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive said he expects NBA owners to be united in voting to force Donald Sterling to sell the Clippers.

“The owners I know are all color blind and they found that this behavior was outrageous,”Ranadive said Wednesday on Good Morning America. “So I would be surprised if it isn’t a unanimous vote.”
