One World Sports Add Korean Soccer League to J-League Rights

Having secured the rights to elite Japanese soccer’s J-League last week, One World Sports has obtained exclusive North American rights to South Korea’s K-League soccer under terms of an agreement signed with World Sport Group.

An exclusive Game-of-the-Week will be presented on television for each round of the K-League season, which runs for 30 weeks, ending October 30 with games also made available on broadband and mobile.

The K-League is the country’s highest and most prestigious level of soccer competition and the popularity of soccer has exploded in Korea with the 2011 K-League stadium attendance growing 138 per cent since 2010.

Hunt Brothers Pizza Inks JR Motorsports Sponsorship Deal for 2015 Season

Hunt Brothers Pizza, ampoule the nation’s largest brand of made-to-order pizza in the convenience store industry, is returning to the NASCAR XFINITY Series in 2015 with its sponsorship of Kevin Harvick and JR Motorsports.

For the second consecutive season, Hunt Brothers Pizza will serve as primary sponsor on Harvick’s No. 88 Chevrolet for four XFINITY Series races.

Harvick, a two-time series champion and winner of 84 races across NASCAR’s three national series, will share driving duties of JR Motorsports’ No. 88 entry in 2015 with veteran drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kasey Kahne. To date, Harvick has earned four victories, 12 top-five and 14 top-10 finishes in 14 starts during his debut season racing part-time for JR Motorsports.

His resume also includes NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victories in the Daytona 500, Coca-Cola 600, Brickyard 400 and Southern 500.

GlobeCast to Deliver IPL After Successful CWC Broadcast

Having successfully delivered the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup, leading global provider of content management and worldwide transmission services for professional broadcast delivery, GlobeCast has announced that it will also deliver the on-going Indian Premier League (IPL).

Under the terms of the agreement, GlobeCast will bring the world feed in HD to Nimbus/Times Internet and a unilateral feed for Sony (Multi-Screen Media) in SD. The global content transmitter will be delivering 450 hours and 74 matches from over 12 venues in 51 days for the Twenty20 tournament. 

In March, GlobeCast delivered the ICC Cricket World Cup for ESPN Star Sports, the host broadcaster and rights holder of the series. GlobeCast deployed a crew to over 13 venues in three countries, moving between India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. GlobeCast covered 49 matches in the series and a cumulative 600 hours over 43 days.

ESPN Star Sports received the live feed from the stadiums via GlobeCast at its studios in India for production and further customization for its networks.

For both events, several sets of HD and SD SNG vehicles were deployed at all venues. GlobeCast uplink the feeds straight from the event sites via the HD/SD SNGs on-site, sending the signals to the Americas, Asia and the rest of the world via its network agnostic hybrid satellite and fiber (GlobeCast Backbone Network) network.

SuperSport Follow UEFA Deal with Table Tennis Rights

The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has secured a broadcast agreement with Pan-African sports network SuperSport that will ensure TV coverage across Africa of all ITTF events.

SuperSport agreed a deal to retain the Pan-African rights for the UEFA Champions & Europa League tournaments and has signed this agreement due to the proactive drive of the ITTF to increase TV exposure of the sport in every continent.

ITTF president Adham Sharara said: “I am delighted that ITTF events will now be available on African TV screens. This has been a long-term goal of our Federation to provide top event access to our African member associations.

“This is now a reality due to the great efforts deployed by our Marketing Division as well as our Marketing and Media partners TMS International and Total Sport Asia. The synergy and positive work between these three entities is now bearing fruit to the benefit of our African members.”

UEFA Agree Champs. League Renewals with ITV & Sky Sports

European soccer’s governing body UEFA announced yesterday, April 28, that free-to-air broadcaster ITV and Pay-TV operator Sky Sports will continue to hold the media rights for the UEFA Champions League after agreeing a new three-year deal with European football’s governing body to cover the 2012-15 period in the UK.

Under the terms of the agreement, ITV has secured exclusive rights to 16 Champions League first choice live matches on Tuesday and highlights on the same night. Additionally, they have acquired the rights to broadcast the Saturday final and the UEFA Super Cup which will be simultaneously screened with Sky Sports. 

ITV will continue to air the UEFA Champions League matches and highlights on ITV1, as well as via their mobile platform and on itv.com.

In an extension of their existing deal, Sky Sports has acquired the live rights to broadcast all matches on a Wednesday and all matches on a Tuesday except for the first pick match, as well as delayed matches and comprehensive highlights on both nights. Sky Sports will also offer live streaming to PC and laptop via Sky Player and over mobile devices through Sky Mobile TV.

AFL Secures Trio of Broadcast Deals Worth USD1.37bn

A deal worth a combined A$1.25 billion (US$1.37 billion) to the Australian Football League (AFL) has been agreed by Seven West Media, ed Foxtel Management Pty Ltd. and Telstra Corp. to broadcast matches from 2012-16.

Seven West Media will broadcast four games each week during the AFL Premiership season, ask while pay-TV provider Foxtel will show every game of the season live except the grand final and re-establish a dedicated channel for the sport, salve the AFL said today.

Combined with the agreement with Telstra for online rights, officials including AFL Chief Executive Officer Andrew Demetriou negotiated the sport’s biggest broadcast deal as the league moves toward an 18-team competition from 2012 with the addition of a club based in western Sydney. The total cash contribution is worth A$1.118 billion ($1.218bn) compared with A$749 million ($815.8m) in the previous agreement, Demetriou said.

“This is a great outcome for the football industry,” Demetriou said in a televised news conference in Melbourne. “We didn’t set out to set records. We tried to do the best in the interests of the code.”

Foxtel is Australia’s biggest pay television operator with 1.55 million direct subscribers at December 31. Foxtel is half-owned by Telstra, the nation’s largest phone company, while 25 per cent stakes are held by Rupert Murdoch’s News. Corp. and James Packer’s Consolidated Media Holdings Ltd. (CMJ).

Foxtel acquired the rights to exclusively show five of the nine regular-season games live in each round starting next year. Seven West secured free-to-air rights for four matches a week and hasn’t ruled out on-selling some games to rival Ten Network Holdings Ltd. (TEN), according to CEO David Leckie.

Former NFL Star Terrell Owens Partners with Draftster

This endorsement deal further confirms the attraction of professional athletes to this relatively new sector.
