Charles Green, allergist Rangers chief has threatened legal action against any players who refuse to transfer their contracts to his new company and any clubs who attempt to sign those players.

Steven Naismith and Steven Whittaker both announced their objections to transferring their contracts to newco Rangers and confirmed they will not report back to Murray Park for training this week and consider themselves free to find new clubs.

Green responded by reiterating previous warnings that he will challenge any attempts by players to walk away from his club for nothing.

He said in a statement: “It is a great pity that certain players have chosen this time to attempt to tear up their contracts and walk away from the club.

“The club is facing massive challenges in terms of its league status and the last thing the fans want to see is a dispute between the club and players.

“However, it appears that is the route several players are choosing. I can assure those players and clubs who may be interested in signing them that Rangers will seek damages for breach of contract and for inducement to break contracts.’

Konul Nurullayeva an Olympic executive has been named the new CEO to lead Baku’s bid for the 2020 Summer Games.

Nurullayeva heads an international relations department at Azerbaijan’s National Olympic Committee and is secretary general of several national sports federations.

She says her goal will be “to bring the joys and passions of the world’s greatest sporting event to the Caucasus for the first time.”

Azerbaijan’s Minister for Youth and Sport Azad Rahimov calls Nurullayeva a “great example and inspiration to the young people of Azerbaijan.”

Baku is competing against Doha, Qatar; Istanbul, Turkey; Madrid; Rome; and Tokyo. The IOC will select the host city in Sept. 2013.

Watford have confirmed their potential takeover by the Pozzo family remains on track.

The announcement comes after current owner Laurence Bassini claimed earlier on Friday that the deal was off, stating the interested party “don’t have the money”.

However, the npower Championship club have now moved to set the record straight.

A club statement read: “Despite the recent remarks, the deal for the sale of Watford FC to the Pozzo family is progressing nicely.

“There is no issue with funds and both parties are hoping to conclude shortly.”

The Hornets confirmed earlier this week they had agreed a deal in principle to sell the club to the Pozzo family.

The Italians already own Serie A side Udinese and Spanish team Granada and looked well poised to take the reins at Vicarage Road, with Gianfranco Zola even heavily linked with a prospective role at Vicarage Road.

But Bassini, who bought the Hertfordshire outfit 15 months ago, this afternoon told the Watford Observer: “They don’t have the money (I want for the takeover) so I’m not doing the deal.

“They didn’t provide the proof of funds and it is not transparent enough so that is that.

“They have so many partners but they don’t have the money.

“The deal is definitely off. They do not have the money. What can I do?”

But the club still believe the deal is going ahead.

Malaysia’s HRH Prince Tunku Imraan has been elected the new president of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) after Jamaican Michael Fennell had stepped down earlier this year after a 17-year spell.

Along with this appointment South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee President Gideon Sam was elected Vice President of the CGF, both announced on Friday.

Sam’s election is seen as a major coup for the South African sports body. 

Imran has served 11 years on the CGF Board as vice-president.

Sam, a veteran South African sports administrator, has been president of South Africa’s Olympic governing body since 2008.

He has previously headed up the national swimming federation as well as the triathlon code.

Sam described his election as a humbling experience

“I am looking forward to helping the Commonwealth Games movement go from strength to strength and making sure that it is afforded due recognition in the sporting arena,” he said.

The other vice-president’s position will be filled by Canada’s Bruce Robertson.

The Congress is also expected to announce the winner of the host city for the 2018 Commonwealth Games with Hambantoto in Sri Lanka and Gold Coast in Australia the two bidding cities.

Shares in Evergrande, which owns Chinese Super League Guangzhou Evergrande FC and is one of China’s largest property developers, have fallen this week.

The drop comes after a U.S. shortseller said the company is guilty of “fraud, bribery and reckless spending on football teams.”

Citron Research, based in LA, said in a report on its website that Evergrande has “abused the capital markets” and “represents the worst of Chinese neo-capitalism.” Evergrande’s shares closed at 11.4 percent on Thursday, having fallen by around 20 percent, and leaving the company with a market capitalisation of $(US)7.6 billion.

Evergrande is planning to build a Chinese soccer academy in partnership with Real Madrid.

Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Chief Executive Officer Brodie Carr has stepped down over an error that led to Kelly Slater being prematurely crowned world champion last week.

The governing body had calculated that Slater’s Nov. 2 third-round win in San Francisco was enough to give him an unassailable lead atop the championship. Two days later, abortion the association said a mistake had been made and that he could still be caught. Slater, purchase 39, went on to secure his record- extending 11th title four days ago.

Carr said in a statement on the ASP website: “The determination of the ASP world title is the most important moment in professional surfing. Ultimately, the responsibility for every activity within ASP lies with me. Therefore, I have elected to resign my position as CEO.”

Carr, who was appointed in 2005, will leave after the end of the World Tour on Dec. 31. ASP Chairman Richard Grellman will take temporary charge while a replacement is found, the ASP said.

The final event of this year’s elite World Tour, the Billabong Pipe Masters, takes place Dec. 8-20 in Hawaii.
