Arsenal Reveal Pre-Tax Profit, Gazidis Looking to Forge Own Path to Success

Arsenal have announced another healthy pre-tax profit and CEO Ivan Gazidis believes this will help sustain the club through the Financial Fair Play Scheme.

Arsenal’s operating profits fell to £32.3m in the year to the end of May from £45.8m last time as revenue gains were outweighed by wage costs.

The operating profit is before exceptional costs, depreciation and player trading.

Arsenal reports a profit from player trading of £26.0m against a loss of £14.6m last time with gains from a number of significant player sales, including Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, partially offset by higher amortisation charges.

Group turnover was £243.0m (2011: £255.7m). The fall was due to the expected lower level of property sales activity.

Revenues from football increased to £235.3m (2011: £225.4m) with commercial activities contributing £5.6 million of this growth.

Non-executive chairman Peter Hill-Wood said: “We have invested in the team and in the club’s infrastructure as a whole and this will continue.

“UEFA’s new financial regulations have added a further emphasis to the need for a sound financial model.

“That is why our activities to increase revenue are important.

“Increased revenues allow us to continue to be competitive and to keep pace with the ever present cost pressures in the game.”

Gazidis believes Arsenal are in a good position to fulfil UEFA’s Financial Fair Play guidelines for clubs to live within their means.

He said in a statement: “Clubs, fans and other stakeholders in the game are demanding a more rational financial approach and this reinforces our conviction that our club is strongly placed to succeed over the long term.

“We have qualified for the Champions League for the 15th season in a row whilst off the pitch we have a business strategy and infrastructure that is helping us to grow our revenues.

“This revenue growth will provide sustainable funds for future investment in the team whilst keeping within the UEFA Financial Fair Play requirements. We can and will forge our own path to success.”

Manchester United’s MUTV to be Seen in Myanmar & Norway Following New Deal

Manchester United have announced an expansion to its dedicated TV channel, impotent MUTV which will now feature in Myanmar and Norway.

The three deals will see the channel team up with TV stations, abortion SkyNet and TV2 Norway, which for the first time will broadcast MUTV content to fans in Myanmar and Norway, respectively as well an extension of its already-successful partnership with the Icelandic TV station, 365.

With some 23 million viewers tuning into a United game within the first 7 months of last season, SkyNet is confident MUTV will be popular in the football fanatical country. Established in 2010, the pay TV platform broadcasts 84 channels including five HD channels and 20 in-house package channels. These consist of a mix of programme genres, with the station’s five sports channels establishing it as the leading football broadcaster.

Manchester United has a long history of strong support in Norway. This new partnership with TV2 Norway, one of the country’s biggest and most well-known TV stations, will be welcome news to the Club’s official Scandinavian supporters’ club, which boasts more members than any other official branch in the world.

365 is Iceland’s largest private media corporation, broadcasting six TV stations as well as owning radio stations, a national newspaper, magazines and an online news website. The company currently has 40% market share of the Icelandic Pay TV market. 365 already broadcasts MUTV content to fans via its popular Stod 2 Sport channel, which can be purchased as part of a larger pay to view package. The extension of its partnership with Manchester United will allow the channel to continue showing MUTV footage to the Club’s Icelandic followers for the next two years.

Manchester United Commercial Director, Richard Arnold commented: “Manchester United is fortunate enough to have 659 million followers around the globe and the creation of agreements, like the ones we have with SkyNet, TV2 and 365, allows us to bring them closer to the Club they love. The new agreements mean that MUTV now has 22 international broadcast partners, covering 56 territories worldwide including parts of Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa. Through our partnerships, tens of millions of people now have access to MUTV content.

“The dedicated channel already creates some unique and distinctive content and, with the development of our network of broadcast partners, we are able to invest in this further. By teaming up with reputable media houses like SkyNet, TV2 and 365 we can ensure that this content is delivered in right way, reaching key audiences.”

MUTV now broadcasts in 56 countries worldwide.
