Barry Hearn May Drop Olympic Stadium Pursuit Depending on Judicial Review Decision
Barry Hearn, the Leyton Orient chairman, has revealed he is likely to drop his legal fight with West Ham if he fails to win a judicial review over the tenancy of the Olympic Stadium.
Two weeks ago Hearn announced that he had asked for a judicial review over London Legacy Development Corporation’s (LLDC) decision to name West Ham as their preferred tenant for the £429million London 2012 stadium.
The Leyton Orient chairman thinks West Ham have broken the rules in their bid because they have not given his club the chance to discuss the possibility of a groundshare between the two neighbours.
Hearn thinks West Ham moving in to the Olympic Stadium will “crush” Leyton Orient because of the 60,000-seater arena’s proximity to Brisbane Road, which holds just over 9,000.
Hearn has repeatedly insisted he will not back down in his long-running battle with the Hammers over the stadium, but on Wednesday he relented, admitting he will not take his legal fight any further if he is not successful in his application for a judicial review.
“If I lose the judicial review, I have got to walk (away),” Hearn told a press conference at the Nolan Partners Sport Industry Breakfast Club in London.
“That’s it. It must stop – I can’t do anything else. I have fought a really good fight. I’ve cost people a lot of money and spent a lot of money myself but I don’t regret it because I think I am in the right.”
Hearn is convinced he will win the judicial review, but he is not confident of being given the chance to share the stadium with West Ham if the LLDC have to start the bidding process all over again for a third time. For that reason the 64-year-old businessman has already started looking at other sites for a new ground for his npower League One club.
“If I stay (at Brisbane Road), I get crushed,” Hearn added. “And I am not prepared to see a club that is 130 years old, that reaches more kids than another other in the country through the community schemes, get crushed.
“I don’t know where (Leyton Orient would move to). Harlow has been mooted, Romford has been mooted, off the A13 down by the Docks… Barking way.”
Matt Clarke Steps Down from Wycombe Wanderers’ Board of Directors
Matt Clarke has resigned from the board of directors at Wycombe Wanderers with immediate effect.
A statement on the League Two club’s official website confirmed the news, citing a desire from Clarke to spend more time with his family after recently becoming a father.
The statement read: “Following the recent birth of his baby girl and developments in his professional career, Matt feels he can no longer commit the required time to fulfil the role to its maximum.
“The club would like to thank Matt for his efforts during his time as a director and look forward to seeing him back at Adams Park in the near future.”
Clarke told Bucks Free Press: “I wish the club every success. I’m still a massive, massive supporter and they have a great team on and off the pitch.
“It was a really tough decision but it will be the right one for me.
“The club have been brilliant about it, which I very much appreciate.”

EiTB Retains Euroleague Basque Country Broadcast Rights
Euroleague Basketball have announced Basque Country’s public broadcast service EiTB will be the official broadcaster of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague in the Basque Country of Spain for the next three seasons.
With this new three-year agreement, EiTB will become one of the longest-running TV partners of the competition with more than 10 seasons supporting and broadcasting Euroleague Basketball games in the Basque Country.
ETB will broadcast all games of Laboral Kutxa Vitoria, starting Wednesday with Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius vs. Laboral Kutxa Vitoria. With this new agreement, all 24 Turkish Airlines Euroleague teams will have an official broadcaster that will bring the top European competition into all fans’ homes.
Gabby Logan Joins Perform’s Board of Directors
Perform has announced sports broadcaster Gabby Logan has become a board director sor the sports content producer.
As one of the UK’s leading sports journalists, with commitments including BBC’s Match of the Day and its Six Nations Rugby coverage, the sports media business said it hoped to tap into her knowledge of the sports world.
Perform, which floated on the stock exchange in 2011, distributes sports content such as video to more than a thousand partners, including bookmakers and football club websites. It also owns Goal.com, the largest football portal in the world by monthly users and page views.
Chairman Paul Walker said the appointment will boost the company’s content distribution business as it taps growing demand for online media.
He added: “We are looking forward to working with Gabby and are confident that Perform will benefit from her expertise as it continues to build on the success achieved to date.”
The group is based in Feltham, London, and has offices around the world, including in the United States and Singapore.

Annecy 2018 bid receives backing of French businesses
The French business world has given its backing to Annecy’s bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympic Games after MEDEF, the country’s main commercial confederation, heard a project overview from bid CEO Edgar Grospiron.
Grospiron addressed an audience of more than 200 business leaders at the end of last week at an event organised by MEDEF.
And the former Olympic champion outlined the bid committee’s plans to see off competition from rival bidders Munich and PyeongChang.
Head of MEDEF, Laurence Parisot, said: “Annecy 2018 is a tremendous project, first of all because it is a region which is no stranger to sporting success but also because it is an inspiration to see men and women who have already reached the heights of Olympic achievement to devote their time and efforts to serving the community.
“This is why the MEDEF and all the companies within the MEDEF are resolute in their support.”
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will decide the host city for the 2018 Winter Games in Durban next July.

Premier League club Sunderland AFC has agreed a partnership with StreamAMG, capsule the pan-European group which includes StreamUK, case for the launch of the club’s new online multimedia service, viagra 40mg SAFSee.
This is the fourth Premiership club’s video to be powered by the StreamAMG platform. The new SAFSee offering opens up a whole host of content to Sunderland fans completely free of charge.
Supporters anywhere in the world can listen to online audio commentary of every game as well as watching extended match highlights, interviews, features, Academy coverage and much more – all without paying a penny.
Fans need only their email address and limited personal details to sign up for SAFSee, which replaces SAFC TV – a subscription-based service.
Stream UK worked alongside the club’s digital media team and specialists from Aqueduct, Sunderland AFC’s lead digital agency, to integrate the required elements into the site and content management system.
The product launched ahead of the 2013-14 campaign and is proving successful, with thousands of fans across the globe already having signed up.
Sunderland AFC’s commercial director, Gary Hutchinson, commented: “Stream UK has been excellent during the integration process and have delivered a robust and flexible platform.
“We were keen to make video and audio free to air to all fans, regardless of where they are in the world, and consider this a key part of our overarching strategy going forward.”

Greg LeMond to Challenge Pat McQuaid for UCI Presidency
Tour de France winner Greg LeMond has revealed his intention to run for the UCI presidency opposite Pat McQuaid following the recent trials and tribulations the organisation has faced.
“It is now or never to act,” LeMond said in an interview with the Le Monde newspaper. “After the earthquake caused by the Amstrong case, another chance will not arise.”
LeMond, 51, is now the only American to have won the Tour de France after USADA disqualified Armstrong for life and cancelled his seven Tour victories. He has been outspoken on anti-doping matters and was a key witness in the Floyd Landis case.
“I’m ready. I was asked and I accepted,” LeMond said. “If we want to restore public confidence and sponsors, we must act quickly and decisively. Otherwise, cycling will die. Riders do not understand that if we continue like this, there will soon be no money in cycling.”
McQuaid has been president of the international cycling federation since 2005, serving to date four two-year terms. The next election is to be held in March 2013.
While questioning whether he was really “the best candidate,” LeMond said that “I am willing to invest to make this institution more democratic, transparent and look for the best candidate in the longer term. I think someone like Dick Pound [former president of the World Anti-Doping Agency], is perfect in terms of ethics, who has real experience in the fight against doping and corruption.
LeMond suggested in fact that McQuaid should resign.
“If Pat McQuaid really loves cycling, as he claims, he would have resigned. He could say, ‘Okay, I made mistakes, but now I quit to find a new leader for the UCI,'” LeMond said.
LeMond said that he hopes Armstrong will one day confess to what he did during his career.
“I hope so. One day or the other. When he feels completely isolated and doesn’t have any money, he may tell the truth. Armstrong has done much harm to cycling.”
