Bell Media Expands NFL Broadcast Deal

Bell Media have expanded their broadcast deal with the National Football League (NFL) which will  ee more NFL games on more Bell Media channels and platforms than ever before.

The agreement brings the 4pm et/1pm pt Sunday package to CTV and TSN for the first time, discount allowing for a full day of Sunday NFL programming on Bell Media channels. The new agreement is complementary to the existing agreement for primetime games on TSN.

Beginning Fall 2014, Bell Media becomes the rights holder to NFL football in Canada for: Sunday 1 pm et regular-season games, Sunday 4 pm et regular-season games,  Sunday Night regular-season games, Monday Night regular-season games, All Playoff Games and the Super Bowl.

Additionally, the new agreement grants Bell Media digital media rights for the first time, giving Canadian fans the ability to watch NFL games and content on Bell Media TV Everywhere platforms, including CTV GO and TSN GO.

Gloucestershire Cricket CEO Tom Richardson to Step Down

Richardson’s departure will come soon after the completion of the next stage of redevelopment at Gloucestershire’s Bristol ground.

Richardson, who will retain some association with the club by taking a role with its youth trust, said: “It is a logical break point as we aim to have completed the development of the pavilion and media centre at the end of July.

“I have hugely enjoyed my time at Gloucestershire County Cricket Club and feel privileged to have been involved for so long.

“Clearly getting started on the development has been a major lift for the club and I am really pleased to have played a full part in that.

“There is a real buzz about the place at the moment and whilst in some ways it will be sad not to be involved next year it is time for me to move on.

“However, all that said, there is a lot to achieve in order to be ready for both the season and the opening of the pavilion and I am really looking forward to doing all of that.”

Gloucestershire chairman Rex Body said: “We are very sorry to see Tom go and greatly appreciate everything he has done for us during his time with the club. We do, however, fully understand his reasons for going at this time.

“Tom’s value to GCCC cannot be overestimated, particularly the work he has done on our ground development programme, in at times extremely difficult circumstances.

“I am extremely grateful to Tom for all that he has achieved for us and I have enjoyed working with him during my years on the executive board and as chairman.

“I am delighted that he will remain associated with the club by taking on a role in our youth trust activities once he leaves his post.”

Euroleague Basketball have announced a partnership with Gazzetta dello Sport for the sport newspaper and website to be the official online destination for the Turkish Airlines Euroleague fans in Italy.

The new site, ed hosted in a special section of gazzetta.it (gazzetta.it/Basket/Eurolega/), will be the main reference for all Italian basketball fans with access to video highlights, news from top basketball journalists in Italy, extensive articles, various polls and contests, real-time live statistics, results, standings and a complete photo gallery

A-League’s Melbourne Heart Rejects Second Consortium Bid

Australian A-League team, Melbourne Heart have confirmed they have rejected a second bid from a consortium representing Victorian Premier League club South Melbourne to take over the club.

A story on The World Game on Wednesday claimed a $3.5 million bid had been made by the consortium, with Heart’s board to consider the offer amid concerns over the club’s long-term financial security.

Heart chief executive Scott Munn moved quickly to state via Twitter that the article was “factually incorrect” and that the offer had been “rejected outright”.

A statement from the club followed soon after: “Melbourne Heart FC can confirm it has received an offer from a consortium representing Victorian Premier League outfit South Melbourne FC for a portion of the club’s shares,” it read.

“Melbourne Heart FC can confirm this is the second time the club has received an offer from this consortium and can confirm that it is the second time that the club has rejected the offer.

“The club will announce a small profit at the end of this financial year.

“The club will look forward to investing in the football department, on and off the field, and competing for a finals position in the 2013-14 A-League season.”

The same South Melbourne consortium had been linked with a bid for the Central Coast Mariners at the worst of their financial crisis in March.

Asian Tour Puts Pen to Paper for New Decade-Long Golf Channel Partnership

The Asian Tour, free cheap the premier golf competition in Asia, order has inked an exclusive broadcast partnership with Golf Channel, which will run for 10 years until the end of 2024.

The long-term agreement will see the Golf Channel hold exclusive television and digital rights in North America. The Asian Tour will be shown on Golf Channel, including Golf Live Extra, the network’s authenticated streaming service, and other potential NBC Sports platforms. Additionally, the Asian Tour will also be featured on Golf Channel’s news programming, including Morning Drive and Golf Central, as well as GolfChannel.com.

Optima Sports Secures 2014 FIFA World Cup Rights in Nigeria

FIFA has announced that Optima Sports Management Int’l (OSMI) has been awarded the exclusive free to air rights for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil and other FIFA events in the Nigerian territory.

The package of rights which OSMI has been awarded includes: the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013, FIFA U-20 World Cup 2013, FIFA U-17 World Cup 2013, FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2013, FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2014 and FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2014 as well as the 2014 FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil.

Niclas Ericson, Director of FIFA’s TV Division, said: “FIFA is pleased to confirm our partnership with OSMI in Nigeria after the successful implementation of the media rights programme in Nigeria for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Nigerian football fans are in for a true treat from the upcoming events that will feature Nigeria’s national teams.”

Rotimi Pedro, CEO of OSMI, was proud to confirm the acquisition, saying: “We are extremely pleased that FIFA has chosen to award these rights to OSMI and we are truly thankful for the opportunity to continue bringing the best of International Football to Nigeria’s millions of passionate fans. David Joy Named England Golf CEO

David Joy has joined the Board of England Golf as the organisation’s new Chief Executive Officer and will take up his role on 22nd April 2013. 

Since 2005 David has been Director of Derbyshire Sport and will bring with him over 25 years of management experience within national and local sports organisations, more than 12 of which have been as a Chief Executive. 

Prior to this David spent six years as Chief Executive of Scottish Athletics where he led a modernisation process that resulted in significant increases in membership of the governing body and the creation of a number of long term commercial partnerships. During this time he worked closely with The Scottish Executive, sportscotland, Events Scotland, Health Education Board for Scotland and UK Athletics. 

David is a keen golfer and until recently was a member of Trentham Park Golf Club. Born in Stoke on Trent David spent the first eight years of his career as a PE teacher and Head of PE before embarking on his sports career with a national development role with English Volleyball. 

Speaking about his appointment, David said: “This is a really exciting time for amateur golf following the merger of the men’s and women’s game.  I am delighted to be given the opportunity to join England Golf and to work with the board, the staff team, the volunteers at national, county and club level and our key partners, as we seek to take advantage of the many opportunities for golf development throughout England.” 

Nigel Evans, Chair of the England Golf Board commented, “We are delighted that David has agreed to join us.  His extensive experience in the governance of sport and working with a variety of stakeholders, including legislative and parliamentary bodies will be extremely valuable.  We are looking forward to David using that experience to bring future development and further growth to England Golf.”
