Five Nations Compete to Stage Equestrian FEI European Championships in 2015

Five nations have applied to stage the European championship for Seniors in one or several Equestrian FEI disciplines in 2015 under a new bid process launched by the FEI in March of this year.

Organisers from – Belgium, erectile Germany, Great Britain, The Netherlands and Poland have applied. The objective of the new bid process is to raise the profile of the FEI European Championships by selecting candidates able to deliver sporting events of the highest quality.

Aachen, Germany was host to the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games™ and the famous annual World Equestrian Festival and has expressed interest in the FEI European Championships 2015 in Jumping, Dressage, Eventing, Driving, Vaulting and Reining. The discipline which attracted the highest interest is Eventing, for which no less than five applications have been received. The complete list of applications is available in the attached table.

The bidding process began in March and will continue until April 2012. The process consists of two phases. During Phase I, the Applicant Phase which ended on 31 July 2011, applicants were required to indicate which one or more of the European Championships they would be interested in staging and provide information relating to their ability to meet minimum Championship requirements.

Phase II, the Candidate Phase, will begin on 1 September 2011. During the Candidate Phase, candidates will be required to provide greater detail on all aspects of the event. The Championships in the Olympic disciplines of Jumping, Dressage and Eventing will be allocated by the FEI Bureau in April 2012. The successful candidates for the Championships in the Non Olympic disciplines will be announced a year later in April 2013.

Bin Hamman still wants explanation from FIFA

Mohamed Bin Hammam is still waiting for a “fully motivated decision” from FIFA relating to his lifetime football ban nearly two weeks after the ethics committee’s verdict.

The Qatari has confirmed he will appeal regarding the decision which was made on the July 23 verdict in relation to an ethics probe into the bribery scandal.

“According to the relevant regulations, an appeal can only be made once the fully motivated decision has been received by the party concerned,” FIFA said in a statement to INSIDER.

“Normally, it takes some time for the fully motivated decision to be finalised and sent. Mr Bin Hammam has not yet received the fully motivated decision.”

FIFA have not responded with a date on releasing the “fully motivated decision”, according to the Qatari, and this has yet to be finalised.

Bin Hammam claims to be sure that he was given the guilty charge before stepping into court and that the ethics of FIFA themselves should be challenged.

The 62-year-old was banned following an investigation into allegations that he attempted to bribe Caribbean Football Union officials at a May meeting in exchange for their votes in his bid to unseat Sepp Blatter in the FIFA presidential election.

Nanjing to Carefully Manage Youth Olympic Spending

China’s eastern city of Nanjing said that the city will be frugal in its approach to new venues as it prepares to host the Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2014.

Nanjing Party Chief and the Games’ Organizing Committee Executive President, Yang Weize said the city spend carefully when adding new competition and training venues.

Yang said: “No new venues will be built if old ones can be renovated; no new facilities will be purchased if old ones can be repaired; no equipment will be bought if they can be rented, and they won’t be rented if they can be borrowed.”

Organizing Committee Deputy Secretary General, Liu Yi’an said 25 of the 34 competition and training venues will be renovated.

Five temporary venues will be disassembled or replaced after the Games end, and the four new locations will be opened to the public.

Nanjing has put forward a Games-related budget of RMB2billion ($315M), along with a financial supervision committee. {jcomments on}
