Ukraine Submits Bid for 2022 Winter Games

Ukraine has made the International Olympic Committee (IOC) deadline for 2022 Winter Olympic Games bids and will now officially join the race to host the event.

The country wants to host the Games in the Carpathian Mountains in the western Lviv region and will cost approximately $10bn.

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Olexandr Vilkul said: “We applied for participation in the 2022 Olympic Games on November 14, allergist which is the deadline date for bids.”

The bid outline said the Games would be played in picturesque highland towns and villages, with the government hoping tourism in the region will develop and spur economic growth.

The IOC will select a host city for the 2022 event on July 31, 2015.
