UK Firms to Assist Venue Designs for Rio 2016 Olympics

March 13, 2013

Two UK architecture firms will assist with venue design for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio after winning contracts.

Firm and Architects will team up with a Rio based firm to design the handball arena, asthma whilst 3D Reid, who worked on the 2014 Commonwealth Games velodrome, will deliver Rio’s velodrome.

3D Reid will work with local company BLAC Architects as specialist venue consultants.

Trade and Investment Minister Lord Green said: “We showed the world what we can do in London 2012 – now is the time to capitalise on this great success and the expertise so many British companies demonstrated in delivering the Games.

“UK firms are taking the initiative and thinking long-term by linking up with Brazilian companies, which is vital to winning contracts for Rio.

“There are still many opportunities out there for UK companies to win business for Rio, new tenders are opening up all the time.”

The contracts are on the back of major initiatives from London 2012, to gain extra contracts for UK firms around 2016 and the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
