Turkey Prepared for Doping Spotlight if Awarded 2020 Olympic Games

August 8, 2013

The President of Turkey’s National Olympic Committee (NOC) has reiterated the country’s fight against doping and has welcomed the media spotlight their programme would face if Istanbul hosts the 2020 Olympic Games.

Speaking on the eve of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in Moscow, drugs Professor Ugur Erdener said Turkey would continue to be ‘aggressive’ in their fight against doping.

Erdener commented: “Turkey’s aggressive fight against doping in sport, erectile which we have intensified significantly since the start of 2013, diagnosis will continue and accelerate regardless of the International Olympic Committee’s decision on the host city of the 2020 Games on 7 September 2013.

“But if Turkey is granted the honour of hosting the 2020 Games it will put our anti-doping programme under the full glare of the global media spotlight for the next decade. We welcome that.”

The organisers of Istanbul 2020 are preparing for the final month of campaigning ahead of the IOC Session in September.

The 125th IOC Session will announce which city will host the 2020 Olympic Games, with Istanbul facing competition from Madrid and Tokyo.
