Taiwanese tech company’s Olympic sponsorship ends

June 8, 2012

Taiwanese technology company, Acer Inc’s worldwide Olympic sponsorship will end iafter the London Games as the IOC looks to review its technology sponsorships.

Reports say the end of the partnership is because the IOC would like to w keep the computing category vacant as part of a review of its technology categories.

Insiders believe the products of some of the IOC’s other

technology partners, Samsung and Panasonic, are beginning to conflict with the exclusivity Acer has had as the computer hardware category partner.

The IOC’s existing deals with Samsung and Panasonic expire in 2016 and 2020 respectively.

Chinese computer manufacturer Lenovo was Acer’s predecessor as the IOC’s computer category sponsors from 2006 to 2008.
