SportAccord Unveils Proposals for Constitution Changes

March 8, 2017

SportAccord, the umbrella group of more than 90 Olympic and non-Olympic sports federations, has unveiled proposals for constitutional changes that could see it return to its former designation and introduce a new means of electing its president.

The new rules will be voted upon during SportAccord’s annual general assembly, which takes place in Aarhus, Denmark.

Patrick Baumann, who was this week confirmed as Frankie Fredericks’ successor in the 2024 IOC Evaluation Commission, is the current president of SportAccord in a term that ends in 2020.

The reforms also propose that SportAccord return to the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) designation that was in use before 2009. In a statement, SportAccord said: “The name of SportAccord does not necessarily reflect what the Association is.”
