The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) announced that the ITTF World Cadet Challenge will be held in Otocec, Slovenia.

The ITTF World Cadet Challenge, the most prestigious Under-15 table tennis event in which 4 boys and 4 girls from each continent compete, will be held in the city from 26 October to 3 November 2013 after Turkey handed back the rights for the event.

ITTF President Adham Sharara stated: “Slovenia has a lot of experience in staging table tennis events, and following the great editions held in Puerto Rico and then Guam has raised the level of this competition, but I am sure that Slovenia will rise to the occasion.”

The World Cadet Challenge debuted in 2002, where 14-year-old Jike Zhang from China was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. This title was the first of many for now 25-year-old Zhang. The player is now one of the most celebrated in history, winning gold at the London 2012 Olympics and back-to-back individual world titles.
