SAP Sponsors Kieler Woche Sailing Regatta

German software company, buy SAP has announced today that it once again is the premium sponsor of Kieler Woche, check the world’s largest sailing regatta.

The event takes place from June 22-30, 2013, in the Kiel Bay. Using SAP solutions, spectators on site and online will be able to experience events on the water firsthand. Athletes will also benefit from the use of the SAP software; with the interactive ranking “Sailing Analytics Leaderboard,” the position of all competitors may be displayed at any time. And in daily sailor debriefs, the athletes will evaluate in detail and analyze all races flexibly and via mobile by iPad and other devices.

In order to achieve this, we have optimized our solutions and products for the sport of sailing further,” said Stefan Lacher, head of the sailing projects at SAP. “Along with sailor debriefs, we will offer an English live broadcast this year so that international viewers from anywhere in the world will be able to participate in the events. For the race officers, there is the mobile solution ‘Race Committee’ app, which helps to ensure optimal competitive conditions for the sailors.”

SAP solutions at Kieler Woche analyze data transmitted from boats, cameras and sensors along the routes, and were developed in conjunction with providers of GPS tracking and 2-D and 3-D visualization. Even more live data about the race will be transmitted, such as average speed, already sailed distance, estimated time of arrival at the next tons circumvention and distance to the leading boat, as well as gains and losses for each stage. With the “Race Committee” app, race officers can interpret the courses with GPS support and convey the racing on the relevant course on land. With this techology, SAP and Kieler Woche remain pioneers in the field of sailing innovations.

With 3 million visitors annually, Kieler Woche is the largest summer festival in Northern Europe. The supporting program on land covers more than 2,000 events on various topics and more than 4,500 sailors from 50 countries have registered for the regatta, with over 450 races on 11 race tracks.
