A two-year agreement has been struck between South Korean electronics firm Samsung and the South African Rugby Union (SARU).

Samsung will become the official smartphone supplier to the governing body and the South African national team.

Jurie Roux, the chief executive of SARU, said: “Samsung is a world-class, cutting edge company and represents the qualities which South African rugby and the Springboks continually strive to achieve.”

The firm will provide members of the Springboks with the latest technologies from the Samsung Galaxy range as a part of the new deal.

Samsung Electronics South Africa’s director of mobile communications Craige Fleischer commented: “The Springboks are a national institution and beloved by South Africans. With their impressive track record on the field, they constantly provide an exciting experience for rugby fans, making them a perfect fit for Samsung.

“The recently released results of Interbrand’s ‘Best Global Brands 2013′ report shows Samsung Electronics climb another position and is now ranked in eighth position.

“As one of the global top brands, it seemed fitting to partner with our top national rugby team, as the Springboks compete for the global top position.”
