Sabah Classic Tournament to be Added to Asian Development Tour Schedule

August 16, 2013

The PGM UMW Sabah Classic has been added to the 2013 schedule of the Asian Development Tour (ADT).

The PGM UMW Sabah Classic, prostate which has been sanctioned by the Asian Tour and Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM Tour), case will be Sabah’s first ADT event since the 2010 launch of Asian Tour’s secondary circuit. Additionally the Sabah Classic will offer Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points, store enabling Malaysian players to qualify for November’s World Cup of Golf in Melbourne.

The tournament will be one of 10 ADT events to be held in Malaysia this season. A record of 15 ADT tournaments will be held this season, up for last year’s 13.

“The Malaysians success on the ADT can be attributed to Tun Ahmad Sarji’s vision to promote and enhance the game of golf in Malaysia. The co-sanction events between the ADT and PGM Tour have given the local players a platform to take their game to a higher level,” said Kyi Hla Han, chairman of the Asian Tour, of his counterpart at the PGM Tour.

“The ADT has also given the Malaysian players including Iain Steel, Nicholas Fung and Danny Chia the opportunity to earn valuable world ranking points which is the only criteria to qualify for the World Cup of Golf and the Olympics in 2016.”

The PGM UMW Sabah Classic will place 4-7 September 2013 at the Sabah Golf and Country Club.
